Rankings may mean nothing now but being seeded at B10s and Nationals does. Carton took a big step last night, Hopefully he continues wrestling like that and takes out Thorn and then possibly the no. 9 from Missou.
Had the same thought. It's great to turn it on in March, but if your record in the regular season lands you a poor seed at Big Tens, the odds of a high finish there are against you and your seed, if any, at Nationals will suffer. So yes, rankings in February are relatively meaningless, but they are reflective of performance, which determines seeds, which strongly influence tournament success.
