stood in the section to the left of the student section and got yelled at for standing with our group with 90 secs left in the game when we wrapped it up.

This was an Iowa fan with his isu wife. Stfu and eat it.
So those fans suck.....not Carver though. Is that what you meant?..................................

Yeah. Want us to sit on our hands after being scolded all game to sit? It's one minute left in the game that were winning against a ranked rival.

DUDE, SAME!!! We had to be like right next to each other!! Annoyed the hell out of me!!!! Except, I think there was some ISU fans yelling at me as well.

You think Carver is the only place this happens?

Depending on when in the game I would let the old people watch and sit down. With a minute to go, everyone's standing up to leave anyway...

I had the same thing behind me. Two older guys "I'm going to move at halftime. These 8 idiots in front of us are annoying." His wife "Why because they are cheering?" And he ended up moving. Don't go to the game then.

I have never been told to sit down or not cheer at a Hawk game in over 30 years of going to games in CHA. Never seen any other Hawk fan get told that, either. I have seen mouthy fans from other teams get yelled at, though. And they deserved it.

I'm in my 40's and have been yelled at after standing for a few seconds when 75% + of the crowd are standing in other sections. I am not mouthy or obnoxious, I don't drink before games, I stand less than 10% of the time when they are actually playing. I am positive, I just cheer. I don't know where the heck you sit.

There are some seriously crabby fans at Carver who NEVER want anyone to stand. I moved my season tickets to get away from some of them.

Carver Hawkeye is one of the worst venues in college basketball. It was built as a comfortable setting to enjoy watching a basketball game and designed for the wine and cheese crowd. The student student was a second thought placed as far away from the action as possible as to not disturb the elitist few who rarely do more than offer a gentle clap of support. Carver Hawkeye is a great place to mingle and socialize and you can walk the wide top concourse and stretch your legs and grab an ice cream but it is not a college basketball venue. It is neither loud nor imposing and offers little to suggest to suggest it is a hostile environment. It is a comfortable old pair of socks and it should be replaced

They really should create a sitting on hands section and charge a premium for those seats. If you don't want to add to the atmosphere sit here and pay a 20% premium.

Completely agree! I don't know how feasible that would be but I would love to be in a section that essentially stands during play and sits during timeouts and halftime.

I would like to add some balance to the arena discussion and say the new center video screens are great! Lots and lots of instant highlights ad well as live action easily seen from every seat. Sound system has improved, too.

They are trying and some of the changes have been good. It's really up to the fans to make Carver rock, so get your butts over here for the B1G season, people!

During a Christmas break game against some no name opponent, we got told to sit down in the student section 10 seconds after tip off

Same here...both Carver and Kinnick. Never once been told to sit down nor heard anyone else being told that, either.

Of course, I adapt to the situation. There is ZERO need to stand the entire game, but it is appropriate to stand at crucial points. It is all about common courtesy and respect for others. It's not that hard, but unfortunately there are too many idiots who think their ticket gives them special rights over everyone else. Those are the ones who need to stay home.

Just because people stand up to cheer doesn't mean they should stay home. I only stood on big 3s or big plays to cheer when 75% of the arena was standing. I'm a season ticket holder and I see it almost every game with older folks who don't want to stand at all throughout the game and then get upset because people around them stand up to cheer. They should be the ones staying home. I pay for season tickets for the experience. If I wanted to sit all game, I'd stay at home and watch it on tv.

1) Move the students to around the court. Get it done however you need to do it.
2) I dont know if it would be possible but they need to wall off in between sections around the concourse. This would keep in the noise and keep people from heading to the top to watch with 4 minutes and under left in the game.

I wasn't implying people who stand up and cheer should stay home. Rather, those that stand all game or otherwise disrupt the enjoyment/viewing of those around/behind them because they think THEIR ticket gives them the right to deny others the chance to watch the game (which their ticket also entitles them to) should be the ones staying home.

It isn't that complicated. If you go to a game, you should expect there will be some standing. Take note of what the rest of the section does, then act accordingly. How hard is that?

Be considerate of those behind and around you, and EVERYONE can have a good time.

Carver Hawkeye and basketball were not the vision of Roy Carver as wrestling was his passion and that is why Carver is a great wrestling venue.it is built to accommodate wrestling and not so much basketball.Sorry...but that is truth.

I know it's kind of beating a dead horse, but I have been told, dare I say rudely yelled at, to sit many times for standing for a few seconds. I have also been told to sit during timeouts. I hardly ever stand, I am not loud, rude, or obnoxious. I don't know where the hell you sit, but I've also seen it happen to others, especially middle or high school age kids that, IMO, the person yelling feels comfortable pushing around. I'm a middle-aged woman and possibly more of a target to some men? I don't know.

Ah yes, replicating the Scramble Section from Kinnick to CHA, now that would be a feat, count me in. If only a guy could get a bota full of apple jack into CHA...

I love this. OP can't complain about the team like he usually does, so he moves on and rips the venue. Coaches next? Cheerleaders?
Oh yeah I complain? I think not I prefer to call it analyze do not get me on the students or cheerleaders who are well LAME
