Catch a wave.

HBO docu-series on big wave surfing was great if interested. https://www.hbo.com/100-foot-wave

I have been up to Mavericks a few times in the early to mid 90's when my friend lived in Santa Cruz. The waves were insane but not a lot of riders because being pulled in on jet ski just starting.

I used to surf with my boys out in Dog Town area of Cali. We'd hang at the Zephyr surf shop and have a ball. Anyone came onto our turf got lit up. Crazy times, man.

Catch a tsunami? Damn.

We were in a hotel in San Isidro (Lima) Peru where we could see surfers riding these little waves. I wanna do it!

Up close they were like 12 feet tall. Still little by wave standards I'm sure, but terrifying by pasty faced, Midwestern, landlocked boy standards. My search for athletic prowess continues ...

Which hotel? I lived in San Isidro across the street from the golf course. The surf near the city wasn't great. But if you go up north to Chicama, there is a break that you can ride the waves for a mile. Great place to learn.

It was the Marriott which also overlooks the collection of shops which is supposed to be a big deal ... just a dumb touristy thing. Never can remember the name. Also stayed in a neighborhood where I could walk to Wong's (grocery, right?) or even to Lince with its statue commemorating the Pope's visit in 1985. Also to a great bakery with wonderful butifarra (triples) sandwiches.

Really enjoyed it. Want to go back but things are a little dicey there now. Enjoyed trying to communicate a little in Spanish even though the natives were probably rolling there eyes, lol.

Maybe the JW Marriott? I don't think it was there when I lived there. There was a lot of construction and influx of foreign investment after I left. If it's the hotel I am thinking of La Costa Verde (restaurant) was down on the beach. We used to go there for brunch. Used to be really good food. Yes, Wong's is the supermarket. I think the one you are thinking of is in Miraflores. There is also Barranco neighborhood which is has a lot of bars and artists. We used to rumble around there in high school. Good times..

Now you're making me think and I don't like that ... no actually I do need to sometimes if only to keep things straight.

Yes, JW Marriott and it was Miraflores. Now I'm wondering what we did in San Isidro, ha. The name of the mall is Larcomar (long ocean?)
Seems we could walk East to Wong's, NE to a city park and further for Lince. Perhaps drove there, to Lince. To the West was a large, modern mall. Think it was new(er), maybe not there when you were ... during high school? Military brat? Native Peruvian? I'm sure I'm way off.
