He never verified the workers credentials with SS. He asked ( verbally) if he was “legal” but never verified (e-verify) with SS. This is the employer’s responsibility.
(My bride verified countless employees for her work over the 30 years she ran her program. Not a fool-proof program but it’s accurate and “illegals” understand they are being “checked-out” to will be deported once discovered.)

Well.... that wasn't the only law that was broken. But it was the only law that was broken by someone other than the person who was here illegally and murdered an innocent woman.
But maybe the guy who hired him and didn't bother checking his status believed the people who said illegals commit crimes at a lower rate than natural born Americans.

Probably…because he knows that in this case (immigration law) ignorance is a justifiable excuse….altho it does not abrogate the employer if their responsibility. But… how is that “the President’s” responsibility? It isn’t. It is Congresses job to make immigration laws effective.
What happened in Brooklyn was a tragedy…but it certainly was not whoever was President responsibility.
The law as written, places most of the responsibility with “the employer” to verify. The government furnishes the network to verify.
