Sorry if this is a pepsi, but there is an update on things.

Seems Tiffany O Donnell, a big Reynold's groupie and mayor of CR has begged Kimberly to veto the proposed moratorium on granting casino permits.

It probably comes down to O Donnell's plea vs another campaign donation from the Kehl family to limit casinos in the Cedar Rapids area.

Previously, the Kehls had promised to build an entertainment venue/waterpark if voters rejected the casino project.

Riverside Casino would obviously be the biggest casualty if CR builds one.

Corruption vs personal friendship...who wins?

Obviously not from around CR or you would know they initially voted no on the first vote for a Casino thus shitting in their own helmet!!

A lot of cigarette and oxygen tank suppliers are very hopeful.

the tow truck drivers between CR and Meskwaki are hoping it gets shot down.

There are a number of strange requirements regarding the approval of a casino. The first vote was in 2013, I believe. At that time, one of the requirements was the measure had to be approved twice within an eight year time frame to be considered by the Iowa Racing and Gaming Assn.

There are also a number of new members on the committee which raised the hopes of local leaders that this could be "a go".

The moratorium kinda became a big roadblock that was previously not in place.

BTW....the proposal passed in 2013. Not sure where you get the "shitting in their own helmet" idea?

That dumb bitch Reynolds will make the wrong decision no matter what.
This controversy pre-dates Reynolds by a couple of decades.....,If Ms. Tiffany was understanding the news she read for WHO TV back in the day, she would understand this too....Branstad never wanted a casino in CR and Reynolds does what Terry wants....
CR is screwed for a casino until Dems get in power and can start appointing some Racing/Gaming Board members....its pretty simple.

Tiffany O'Donnell is C.R. Mayor now?

JFC

Is that all you Iowans vote for - people you recognize from TV news broadcasts?
Ashley Hinson approves of this message.

LOL

As a follow-up to another post...the Kehl family doesn't want competition in the CR/IC area. Buying favor from Republican Governors is not new.

I don’t care if CR gets a casino or not. I don’t understand why, when it comes to casinos, the government all of a sudden cares about over saturation and whether or not the new casino will put the others out of business.

They don’t give a shit when a Walmart moves into a city and puts all the local stores out of business. They don’t care about over saturation when a gas station builds right across the street from a competitor.

This conversation has been happening, literally, for years!

I can’t remember the reasoning it was voted down originally, but it seemed a little Archaic. At one time, Iowa either ranked second or third in the United States in gambling revenues. That has probably changed, I’m not gonna look it up, but I’ll bet they are still right up there!

Agree. Another casino likely bleeds business from neighboring ones, but in a metro area like CR...there will be customers that are relatively new.

I would rank the area casinos hurt the most as 1. Riverside 2. Mesquakie 3. Isle-Waterloo. Dubuque and QCs will still have Illinois residents.

The Kehls are well known Republican donors.

Terry Branstad's run as Governor was known for two things ...Casinos and CAFOs.

I will. Never understood the draw of blowing money there. Sign me up for drugs and prostitutes before a casino.
To each their own.....I'm fine with either too.....just make sure to regulate and tax the shit out of it.....just like booze, smokes and other sins. You can't "illegalize" morality. No one is forcing you to patronize one.

With fetanyl now laced in everything I would agree.

I get trying to limit the number of casino licensees, but how many industries use buddy-buddy relationships with politicians to limit competition. Wouldn't it be nice if the government would limit competition in some of our respective industries.

It's ridiculous how existing casinos cry when there is a threat of competition 30 miles away. But "we will have to let employees go". No shit. That is how business works if you don't give customers reason to pick your business

And THAT is the crux of the problem in Iowa.......you look at who "owns/runs" these casinos and you will find rock solid Repubbers and Branstad contributors much more oft than not. And Terry was famous for saying....."The purpose of government is not to choose "winners and losers"..." and that is all that sumbitch ever did as governor of Ioway.

Cedar Rapids should legalize prostitution and build a massive whorehouse on that site as a giant f#%k you to the state government

Kehl cries that the CR/IC/Waterloo market, with a combined CSA/MSA population of about 600,000 can't support 3 casinos. Same guy that also bought a casino in QCs, with a CSA population of about 475,000 and has 4 casinos.

Casino in Cedar Rapids?

Ahh Tiffany. The Tiffster. Cute as a bug and perky as all get out. Maybe she can offer the Kimster perky tips in exchange for a gambling license. God knows Kimi could use them.

In retrospect, it figures that the Tiff is a Republican. She always had that look.

Two or three time as well as Iowa City.

They were laughing and dancing in the streets in Waterloo.

Polk County, 500k+ population, has one......and a race track that would be OOB w/out the casino.....50 miles to the south is one and 60 miles west is another.....Branstad and his Repubber buddies made a deal with the devil (not _The DEVIL...we can trust him!) to get Iowa "a little bit pregnant" with the horse (and dog tracks) betting but decided to remove the condom and go balls deep to "lessen Iowans of their tax burden" and allow casinos....as long as his political buddies got in on the first round of licenses and permits....

Especially when this other casinos are feeding off the larger city for customers

Whoa, the Cedar Rapids casino saga sounds like quite the rollercoaster! It's crazy how personal connections and big bucks can influence these decisions. From what I've seen, these situations can be a real pickle. When it's a mix of politics, friendships, and potential profits, there's no telling who's gonna come out on top. It's like a real-life drama unfolding. I also like big money and playing at no deposit slots, but I lack drama. However, it's fine by me.

The choice at hand seems to embody a clash between personal convictions and the potential ramifications for the local casino landscape. The earlier commitment by the Kehl family to construct an entertainment venue/waterpark if the casino project were rejected adds an interesting layer to the scenario. As you aptly pointed out, Riverside Casino could stand as a prominent casualty if Cedar Rapids proceeds with its casino venture.
For those interested in refining their blackjack strategies, the article at https://techstory.in/use-your-head-increase-your-blackjack-winning-odds-with-these-tricks/ offers a comprehensive guide. Exploring such strategies could serve as an interesting parallel to the dynamics observed in the casino project situation, where calculated moves and thoughtful decisions are key factors.
