Celery and carrots served with hot wings

Why are they there and do you actually eat them?

The first wings were served in Buffalo at The Anchor Bar in the 60's. The woman that owned it served a group fried wings with hot sauce, bleu cheese, and celery because that's all she had on hand.

I eat the celery with wings.

That's what I was told. The celery etc helps to reduce the burn from eating the wings.

Now whether that's true or not...............
The dressing does. The celery is just a delivery device.

I went to the Anchor Bar and it was one of the most disappointing food experiences ever. Sometimes the original is not the best, or even very good for that matter.

Wings used to be the throw-away part of a chicken for most restaurants. In the early '70s, KFC would occasionally have a sale when they would get rid of their wings for a dime apiece. The bar I frequented in Cedar Rapids in the mid-'70s was next door to a Chinese restaurant and had a deal with the restaurant to take its wings, because people who ate in restaurants didn't want them. The bar would fry them and give them away during happy hour with dipping sauce. Not blue cheese, though.

So true...made a stop there before the 2007 game at Syracuse...meh

Dinosaur BBQ in Syracuse didnt disapoint...

Does the Longbranch in CR still do all-you-can-keep-down wings on Thursdays? Ten, or so, years ago it was $3. They were good, too.

Anyway, I eat the carrots and the celery and probably more bleu cheese, by weight, than wings.

i find the carrots and celery to be a great match with really hot wings. i don't wait until the end, i mix them in after every wing or two.

I always assumed it was some sort of ‘Rabbits eat free with purchase of a meal’ thing
