I wore my last night. I used to throw on a black pair after leaving the ice arena in the early 2000’s. Still got a couple pair of the men’s boots. They were pretty convenient and comfortable after playing hockey for 2 hours and heading home in subzero temps

It's not so much the boots, it's the attire that goes with them. It makes us think the boots are hot when they're not the hot part.
Like training a person or an animal that is fed when it hears a bell. Eventually all you'll hear is a bell and saliva will start collecting.
