Former Fox News anchor Chris Wallace says he left his employer of 18 years because he “no longer felt comfortable” with the network’s programming as it became dominated by conspiracy theories and false claims about the conduct of the 2020 election.

Speaking to the New York Times, Mr Wallace said he had no problem with the network’s outspoken opinion commentators, but rather its turn against reality. In the wake of the 2020 election, was too much for him to bear.

“I’m fine with opinion: conservative opinion, liberal opinion,” he said.

“But when people start to question the truth — Who won the 2020 election? Was Jan. 6 an insurrection? — I found that unsustainable”.

Mr Wallace frequently drew the ire of the network’s right-wing viewership — as well as prominent Republicans such as former president Donald Trump — for his penchant for accurate reporting.

In particular, Mr Trump often tweeted about Mr Wallace, who he compared unfavourably with his father, legendary CBS News journalist Mike Wallace, and called for him to be fired.

Mr Wallace said Mr Trump’s attacks — combined with Fox’s tilt towards disinformation, exemplified by Fox host Tucker Carlson’s documentary series suggesting the 6 January 2021 attack on the US Capitol was a “false flag” — caused him to spend most of last year looking for a new home.

“I spent a lot of 2021 looking to see if there was a different place for me to do my job,” he said.

“Before, I found it was an environment in which I could do my job and feel good about my involvement at Fox,” he continued. “And since November of 2020, that just became unsustainable, increasingly unsustainable as time went on”.

I respect Wallace and always thought he was pretty fair. I recorded fox news Sunday for years while he was the host. Haven't checked it out since he left. Hope cnn can put him on network tv and not just their online platform. Cnn needs some new tv talent.
I think it would be great for him to be on tv rather than streaming, but he seems excited about the new format.

The anchor was eager to describe what attracted him to his new gig: excitement about CNN+, the more freewheeling format of streaming TV — “I don’t have to say, you know, ‘Wolf Blitzer starts right now at 6:59:59’” — and the opportunity to expand beyond politics. In early episodes, he discusses space travel with the “Star Trek” actor William Shatner, asks the former Disney boss Bob Iger about meeting the pope, and at one point sings a warbling duet with the songstress Judy Collins.

Chris Wallace is 74 years old. The reality is that he
wants to slow down and keep his dignity. FOX was
complicit in the rise of Donald Trump on the political
stage. Now they need to help bring him down.

They want this and long after Trump.

Lolol it has the exact same ****ing stories as CNN

Often times the headlines are laughably different. Of course the Ukraine war is obviously #1 in news. On regular news days fox is straight tabloid BS. I check to compare, laugh, and shake my head.

When he left Fox he had nothing but positive things to say. Year later it’s time to stay relevant and get ready to write a book.

I think you've become conditioned to always be suspicious, always find an ulterior motive, always a conspiracy theory. HIs comments in this recent interview aren't contradictory to all the positive things he has said about Fox News, in fact he even reiterated the positive things about it up till the election, that would be about 17 out of 18 years.

He's just now speaking publicly about all the things that were reported on when he had made his announcement in December 2021: Calrson's documentary and the shift in programming at Fox.

This doesn't exactly scream: "I'm going to trash my former employer to stay relevant":

"He demurred when asked about recent opinions expressed by Mr. Carlson and other Fox News commentators about Russia and Ukraine.

“One of the reasons that I left Fox was because I wanted to put all of that behind me,” Mr. Wallace said, adding that since his exit, “there has not been a moment when I have second-guessed myself about that decision.”"

Fair point.

But let’s not forget he’s in the entertainment business. He knows how to promote a product. His new product is CNN+. A streaming service that is wayyyyy behind the eight ball.

It’s not a coincidence this interview comes out now with Wallace’s comments on 2020 election and Jan 6 and his new show launching literally this Tuesday.

It’s about ratings and money. I don’t blame him.

I agree that the reason he is speaking to other "press" is promotional for his new show. I just don't agree that he trashed Fox News or that he did so in order to generate interest/relevancy. His Fox departure was just one of the topics, and one that he didn't delve too deeply into, seemingly by choice.

So he goes to CNN the TMZ of News Broadcast!!

I think a lot of Republicans fall into the Chris Wallace category of looking for a place to land. Republicans voted for Trump hoping he was the next Ronald Reagan but was the same person he’s always been, a narcissist a hole that turned out to be a terrible President and even worse, horrible person. Add in the extreme right wing media such as FOX and politicians that are BSC (bat shit crazy) and stupidity of the maga voter base and you’ve got a lot of conservatives looking to find a new political party to land on because they, and I don’t agree with the extreme direction the Republican Party is going. It’s sad to see what they are doing and I won’t be a part of that trash.

I always respected Wallace as a journalist. Note the dig by Trump. He always said derogatory things and mentioned Mike Wallace, as if Chris would never be as good, or as if Chris was riding off of his dad’s coattails. SOP for Trump. It’s always a projection. Everyone knows Fred Trump made the money, and Don was just a member of the lucky spent club, so Don uses that knock against Chris Wallace.

Fox News has basically become unwatchable. The only show I would be willing to watch is the 6pm slot with Brett. Everything after that is pure garbage.

The weekend morning show is beyond brutal and they have horrible hosts. That Pete dude has the 3rd most punch worthy face of anyone I’ve seen.

I agree that CNN is not the most accurate. Can you also say that about FoxNews? Cable news is cable news.
Both are equally bad……..one slants left, the other, right. How each are viewed depends on a person’s political leaning.

Bullshit. Your attitude reflects your acceptance of the right-wing extremist views of Fox, and the lack of news reporting. The standard wing nut approach is to pilfer CNN who's reporting is very good and is not an outlier, like Fox.

Objectivity is difficult. It is reserved for the objective.

Funny, you talking about objectivity. 😂😂😂😂

I also gotta laugh at how you somehow label me as accepting of right wing extremist views.:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Now that’s some funny shit right there.

Actual journalism is expensive and the only people who watch hours of cable news are stupid.

Nicosia was fired from one job because he was sending porn to co-workers. He also seems to spend a large amount of his time declaring the imminent demise of CNN is upon us.
I can see why he’s so believable to the marginally employed of HROT.

CNN is clearly falling apart and has been for years. Their “news” is not reliable. At least Fox is upfront about their conservative views.
