I think it's more a story about a liberal refusing to drink the Kool Aid and not walking in lockstep with the rest of the fascists.

I wonder what Chrissie would say if her father was a "big fan" of the KKK and the Grand Wizard got the Medal of Freedom? Seems like a pretty dumb metric for issuing praise.

“She said Melville, known as ‘Bud’, was a huge fan of Limbaugh, who was given the Presidential Medal of Freedom … after he announced he had advanced lung cancer. But she admitted that she ‘didn’t always see eye-to-eye’ with her father and that they ‘argued a lot.’ The rock star, 68, who has a history of animal rights activism, goes on to say: ‘But isn’t that the American way? The right to disagree without having your head chopped off?'”

Seems to me she has her values in the correct order.

I think most people believe we can disagree and not have our "heads chopped off". We just don't understand what Rush did to earn the Medal of Freedom other than being unfortunate enough to develop lung cancer.

She was talking about allowing Rush to use her music on his radio show.

Once again, conservatives proving that Hollywood folks should just STFU....unless they praise conservatives. Then they are to be held on a pillar. I guess conservatives are just really desperate to be one of the cool kids.

Sounds like Chrissie is a musician not a actress.

I am aware of that, but you claimed she had her values in the correct order because she respected the right of everyone to have differing opinions. My point is those of us who don't think Rush deserved the Medal of Freedom aren't saying he doesn't have the right to his opinions, just that he didn't do anything worthy of receiving the honor.

You're entitled to your opinion.

And her opinion is that because her father was a Limbaugh fan, Rush is deserving of the Medal of Freedom. I'm going to exercise my right to disagree with Hynde and express that disagreement. I'm also going to exercise my right to opine that her opinion is kind of dumb. It's up to her whether she respects that or not.

Hynde appreciates the royalties. Honestly the last relevant thing I remember her doing was a cover of Smelly Cat on FRIENDS

Reading through this thread, I was feeling a little bit "conflicted"...
<---
<---

But after searching and finding the actual tweets from Hynde, it's pretty clear to me that she's saying what she's saying, mostly out of respect/admiration for her father.

I would also say that some of the "characterizations" of her tweets may have overplayed the hand. Here's what Rush said on the linked page:
She was on PLJ in New York and they asked her about it. “I don’t care. If Rush wants to use it, fine with me,” which totally confounded her publishing company. So, we got the song back. The reason is that her dad was a huge fan of this program. Her dad’s name was Melville. His nickname was Bud, and Chrissie Hynde says that her late father, Melville, would have loved Trump’s presidency, would have absolutely adored Trump, and would have just been excited as he could be when Trump presented to me the Medal of Freedom at the State of the Union.

“Liberal rock star…” She’s a big animal rights aficionado. Of course, you know, we’ve had our fun with the animal rights activists over the course of this program’s tenure. “Liberal rock star Chrissie Hynde has shocked her fans by praising Donald Trump for honoring conservative radio icon Rush Limbaugh, saying her father ‘would have been so delighted.’

But here is what Chrissie Hynde actually wrote:
An open Letter to @realDonaldTrump, President of the United States.

Dear Mr. President, I often think of how much my father, Melville “Bud” Hynde, who proudly served his country as a Marine on Guadalcanal, would have enjoyed your Presidency.

The other day when you gave that award to Rush Limbaugh, my father would have been so delighted. He loved listening to Rush, which is why I allowed my song, 'My City Was Gone', to be used on his radio show. My father and I didn't always see eye-to-eye. We argued a lot but isn’t that the American way? The right to disagree without having your head chopped off?

Soon, I will be participating in a protest in London against the extradition of #JulianAssange (@wikileaks). I know my father would be mortified, but I feel strongly enough to do what I believe is the right thing; to protest further punishment of a man who sought to defend Freedom, albeit in a way you rightly disagree with. I know Mr. Assange broke the law (as i have done defending the treatment of animals) but I believe he has been duly punished and should now be set free.

Please consider my plea.
Yours truly, Chrissie Hynde of @ThePretendersHQ
