A $225 million deal between Gov. Chris Christie's administration and ExxonMobil over dozens of polluted sites and nearly 2,000 retail gas stations was approved by a New Jersey judge on Tuesday.

Superior Court Judge Michael Hogan ruled that the deal is much less than the $8.9 billion the state originally sought, but a "reasonable compromise" considering the "substantial litigation risks" faced by the state....

Not to worry. Everyone knows that green energy has far deeper pockets. Or at least that's what the Republicans want you to believe.

How can anyone take Christie seriously as a candidate? Poor judgement and/or sell outs right and left. And poor taste, too, with his Cruz-like attacks on Carter.

Scum.

Does this Big Oil deal pass anybody's smell test?

How can anyone take any of the Republican candidates seriously? All of them seem to be scrambling to get put in the pockets of the Koch Brothers.

No i dont think it does. The whole thing is a joke really. This case has been ongoing forever and predated CC in office by many years. The relationship between big oil and NJ is difficult. Oil/ gas and refining are a huge source of income for the state. This is at its core political horse trading. On one hand, the judge may be correct about the costs and the outlook for the case. On the other Christie, in reality, prolly was happy to get the case settled. NY and especially NJ are in big need of money. They can not risk a huge corporate tenant looking to move elsewhere. It is a relationship- NJ and Exxon- that has been confrontational going back over 30yrs. In 2013 both Bernie Sanders and Robert Menendez (Sen of NJ) pushed very hard to get Exxon to stop skimping on paying taxes. It didnt work. I know CC is a clown but the real problem here is the lack of recourse to these oil companies. The US would be in such better shape if they wee just mandated to pay a flat tax rate of say just 20% vs the paltry %s they pay now.
