CJ Fredrick Highlights

He's supposed to be a real good 3pt shooter. Hopefully he can get his shot off and defend. He's may be taking BradyE's scholarship.

That's a lazy comparison. Fredrick's 1 minute of highlights shows a different game than the 3 minute highlight of Fleming chucking up 3s.

Yeah but Fleming was playing at a top prep school. Little different competition.

Better competition limits what you can do.

I dont think they project much different at all, other than Fleming being more athletic.

Same guy offered both players.

Not a a crappy fan issue, more of a crappy recruiter as coach. It doesn't take John Wooden to realize we have no PG on the roster, so it makes perfect sense to give a scholarship to a kid who fills no short or long-term need. If we had a spot for a specialist or combo guard, fine, offer this kid. Unfortunately we are not in that position, but when has Fran ever given needs of the team a second thought when it comes to recruiting?

Ellington and Flemming failed to live up to their expectations as shooters. All 3 would appear to have limitations in their ability to defend and create at the D1 level. However, if just able to drop the 3 at or near the percentage in HS he will be successful. That said, Brady and Flemming just never showed enough shooting ability playing at the college level.

Nice movement without the ball to open spots and does a good job of passing to the bigs!

Brady has PLENTY of shooting ability. Fleming never showed it at Iowa.
Frederick has the rep and motion of a shooter, and looks like better quickness than BE. He started off as a PG before a growth spurt so the handle’s pretty good too.

Seriously? From the videos, Fredrick seems more athletic, albeit neither player's strengths are athleticism. Fleming's most athletic move was a stepback 3 pointer. His feet were so extremely slow.

Fredrick at least appears to have better footwork.

Same guy offered Aaron White... So, what's your point?

Actually Aaron was the bow-tie guys's recruit. Fredrick is family friend of Fran's. The point---our B-ball record is not very good.

Id say his most athletic move was the reverse dunk in warmups.

Id have to dissagree on CF looking more athletic, but either way not that much difference.

My point was Fran has a history of offering unathletic shooters and its yet to work out.

It does take someone to look at the roster. 2 pg's currently on roster, 1 is a freshman who has not played. I grant you that neither may be the quintesensial pg that almost everyone is pining for, but one is pretty good and one is unproven.

Fran was obviously involved in the recruitment of White and okayed it.

Point being- we're not great this year, but it's crazy how many people on here whine about firing Fran. Then they tear apart our incoming recruits and players. Our basketball fanbase is awful, and delusional. You would think that we were accustomed to 25 win years regularly. Enjoy the good years, and look forward to the better years. We have two very highly ranked recruits coming in the next two years, with the opportunity to grab some good players, including a PG. It'll get better.

I think Fredrick looks pretty darn good. He is a lights out shooter and you can't have too many of them. I think the kid will help especially if he can play some good D.

Where did Fran's recruits go post-Iowa? Ingram-IUPUI. Hutton-NW State. Williams-Indiana State. Fleming-Lipscomb. Meyer-Houston. Look at the stats for Hutton and Fleming. Hutton averaging 4 ppg and Fleming 4.2 ppg. So even dropping waaaaaaaaaay down, these guys can't produce, yet Fran saw them as Big Ten caliber players.

Thats pretty bad no matter how much faith you have. We have a few guys like that on the roster now.

Fran has hit on a few reaches, Olesani and White but has missed on allot more.

He needs to take a look at all the offers hes made in his time here, assess them honestly and figure out if a different strategy is called for.

Id be ok just banking some for the following season rather than investing in these guys that are borderline.

Lot of posters have their minds made up before the kid steps on the floor. Actually a nice video that shows he is more than a jump shooter. Thanks for the link!

I do agree that we need a quick, athletic PG to give us what we need to compete for B1G championships, but Frederick could be a contributor down the road.

If you want to ask for everything, where is our 7' athletic rim defender?:)

Sure he could be a contributor down the road with the right mix of players. But we had one open ship and one glaring need. Thats the problem.

Brady Ellingson could have been a nice piece with the right mix of players too.

There just wasn't a good reason to give him the scholly at this point in time. Now if a couple guys leave and we can get a pg and still give him one then fine, but the way Fran did it made no sense.

I will be surprised if there isn't a scholarship available at the end of the year (likely Ellingson gone), but whether we can find what we need is another story. Is it a sure thing that Frederick will be on scholarship next year? I doubt that Connor will be on basketball scholarship his entire career.

According to Fran its his.

Of course it will get better. It can't get much worse right now. My problem is a 2nd round loss as the highlight of an 8 year tenure is not good enough to remain the head coach. Fran's had 8 years and he's managed 3 NCAA tournament games. Not good enough for me. It's obviously good enough for you.

The way I read this situation, Fran promised Frederick a scholly when one came open. However, Fran expected schollys to open at the end of the year. He didn’t expect Williams to back out right before classes started. But when Williams did leave, Fran honored his promise to Frederick.

You must only accept elite, eh?

From where the program was to today, I'm pleased. This year has been frustrating, and two big things need to change before we get back to the tournament next year: defense and guard play. I think losing Connor hurt more than it should've, and we need some guys to probably move on to free up scholarships. But I don't see how you fire Fran. We would become what Auburn football or Nebraska football- unrealistic school who fires coaches faster than you hire them.

Not at all. 1 BIG title and a Sweet 16 would be enough for me to want to give him more time. He hasn't come close to delivering that. He's gotta go.

This team isn't going back to the tournament next year. Not with this roster.

Fortunately your opinion doesn't matter.

This kid is head and shoulders above AF or BE athletically. Just needs to gain some lbs., nice player.

Yeah thats what happened. But why? Why promise him anything?

Fran must have thought he was good with JBO, Williams and then Connor the next year. But how could he think that?

The Williams situation was shaky at best, even if he stayed he wasn't a good ballhandler.

JBO has always been this player and it was obvious he wasn't going to be the pg this team needed. At least to me, because I said as much all last year and this summer. If it was obvious to me it should have been obvious to the coach.

I hope Fran wasn't just putting all his chips on his son, that would be foolish and unfair.

Fredrick should have been told we will try to get you on scholorship as soon as we can, that doesn't mean first available.
