CJ to Kentucky

Very few of us are losing ANY sleep over this 24. CJ is not a difference maker, at least based on his two years at Iowa. This thread is basically about about how this all went down, and how the NCAA's grasp of any control over these kids leaving and being rerecruited goes further down the rabbit hole every year.
Fair enough. Glad we agree no one is losing their mind over this

I agree that it is time to move on, but I do not think that this compares to Tyler Cook. Rumors were that Cook’s goal was to go to the NBA when he first came to Iowa and that he planned on leaving after two years. Many people thought that he might not be ready, but he did what he felt was best and reached his goal. I am not aware of Tyler telling Fran he was coming back for his junior year as has reportedly happen with CJ. I believe Fran was able to prepare to replace Tyler, which CJ did not afford Fran the courtesy of providing.
Didn't Cook leave AFTER his junior year?

How is he betraying anyone? For whatever reason, he decided to move on. It's his life. No one (not even anyone within the Iowa bball program) should feel betrayed.
I honestly don't blame him for leaving after the joke coaching performance Francis had down the stretch but this had been in the works for awhile. He screwed the team over by waiting as long as he did and it sounds like he wasn't honest about his intentions. Not that Fran was going to do shit in the portal to replace him anyway, but he could have been a lot more up front with guys he's been teammates with for 3 years.

CJ might not even be on Kentucky's radar if Iowa didn't give him a chance to play p5 ball

He handled this whole thing poorly, but he's a kid. I was a huge dipshit at that age and can't imagine being in his shoes. Obviously had some pressure from family members and others to do this, but if he thinks it's best for him then good luck to him.

That being said, fvck Kentucky and fvck Cal. Hope they continue to be shitty.

It was reported up to 6 weeks before he entered the portal he was going to Kentucky and he denied it. That alone proves you can’t trust him.

He could have not played like shit down the stretch this year, that would have been cool.

Pretty telling how things are going at Kentucky when they are this excited about CJ. Unlike Iowa, CJ will see the pine when he goes into turtle mode and he won't have a union contract to start regardless of performance like Fran provided. Hoping for an Iowa-Kentucky NCAA tourney game so he can get erased by Keegan (assuming he isn't in a boot on the sideline).
FACTS! Whole different ball game at Kentucky.. You don’t perform you don’t play.. and that’s been the case for even McDonalds All American type players there, which CJ is not. He’s leaving a program where the coach was gonna play him rather he did well or not.. LOL.. as much of a shame that is to be the case at Iowa.. smh..

I thought people were entitled to their feelings.... or is that only if they agree with you.
Of course they are. Calling a kid a traitor is just too harsh. I don't care if you agree with me or not. Another poster said I have zero inside info from Iowa program. This is true. I would hope, however, that they would want the best for the young man regardless of what uniform he is wearing. Maybe not? I have no idea.

Pat McC let it be known that CJ is a snake.

Best of luck to C.J. Too many injuries at Iowa. Never got into full rhythm. He was Kentucky's Mister Basketball senior year. Believe me, they know about C.J.

If he ends up averaging 18 points a game next year THEN we can blame the Iowa coach. But I doubt he does. But it would be interesting if he did.

Wanting the best for somebody is different than feeling betrayed by what happened. I’m sure that Fran wants the best for CJ, but that doesn’t mean that he or anybody else can’t feel betrayed by how everything went down. If CJ walked into Fran’s office, spit in his face, gave him the bird on the way out, then pimp slapped Connor and Patrick, would you still be here telling us how everybody here and on the team should feel? CJ very likely did not do this (and was probably even respectful), but my point is that nobody here knows exactly what was or wasn’t communicated to the staff and his teammates over the past couple of months

Moving on...

Yeah....riiiggghhhttt. Now go back to your clown board.

Why is calling CJ a “traitor” too harsh? It’s the truth.

He was NOT Kentucky's Mr. Basketball (Had he lived in Kentucky he might have gotten it, but he did not).

He was the Kentucky Gatorade POTY (They are not one in the same)

Why do we blame Fran if CJ averages 18 points per game at Kentucky? CJ played a lot of minutes when healthy, which was less often than anyone would have liked. CJ had the opportunity to take numerous shots, but passed them up. Are you suggesting Fran told CJ not to shoot.

Really no different then Cook leaving early after 2 years and lots of Hawkeyereporters were pissed then too. That's the beauty of college athletics, almost every 4 years or less a new crop of kids come in to replace the graduated or disenchanted players, time to move on from C.J. Fredrick and root on players that what to be Hawks. I'm ready for the new season to commence.
3 years.

Of course they are, yet you tell people they shouldn’t feel betrayed. Solid

and yet he walked on at the university of iowa powerhouse to play. Hard to turn that offer down. Hope coach cal has some hair slime to share with ci.

Have we learned why there was a falling out between Fran and the Fredericks? Surely, it wasn't because Connor was getting too many minutes?

There could be things beyond just minutes...could be how a players feels he is being treated compared to others. Could be conflicts within the team. Odds are it was not just a minutes thing, especially knowing how much CJs shooting would be needed next year.

We're kind of in a rebuilding mode and CJ probably wasn't sure how it would all play out. Maybe he's being honest with himself and feels he's not a #1 go to guy. At KU, he gets to keep his role of being the shooter when open.

If he got hurt a lot at Iowa imagine what will happen to him at KY? He won't last a season.

What CJ apparently did was pretty low class and deserving of much of the negative feedback he is getting. But I ask you all this - how many of you would trade places with him if you could? A basketball player at Kentucky? I mean come on!

I am not a fan of Cal. Every school he has coached at has had some sort of NCAA punishment resulting from shenanigans that occurred during his time there. I would not want to be associated with that slime ball.

While he could have went about it better, if an opportunity arises to play at Kentucky it's hard to pass up.
