CJ

Hopefully Garoppollo needs a few more weeks to learn the playbook and CJ can show he's deserving of the starting spot. I knew this year was going to be tough if he got in there...OL playing well today though.

At the half, 49ers lead the Giants 17-13. Here's CJ's line:

13/16 - 198 yards - 2 TDs - 0 INTs - 157.8 QB rating. One TD pass went for 83 yards.

CJ has not been sacked, which is huge, because he was hit more in his previous starts than any other QB in the NFL. Give the man half a chance, and you can see the results. I hope he keeps it going and leads the Niners to their first win of the year.

2020 hindsight. There he was, sitting on my bench racking up points...while Matt Ryan did almost nothing.

Way to go CJ! I wish he could have stayed healthy while he was with the Hawks.

Just perusing around the web...Niners fans really like CJ's guts and toughness, and quite frankly many would like to see him keep the job after their bye week. He's taken a beating in his starts, evidently he took a hit to the thumb today...but he kept at it and led them to victory today, a badly needed win. Seeing SF on the sidelines as time ran out...happy bunch of players there.

I think it's fair to say that while CJ may never truly hold a full time starter job, chances are at some point he might actually get a true opportunity - and at the very least is going to be in the league a while if he stays injury free. Let's face it, SF didn't acquire JG to sit...but considering that he's a FA after this year, even if they do sit CJ at some point, CJ's still going to be around next year.

Great job, son! Very, very happy for you!

Staley returning to the OL was a difference maker. I think CJ went down once. Quite the improvement from previous games.

In fairness, Vegas had the 49ers are the favorite in this game. First time this year. The Giants have mailed it in ever since they lost OJB. It's more like a preseason game. Still, good job by CJ to at least meet this week's expectations.

having a good game

Looks good for him to have a showing like that for his future prospects.

It doesn't seem likely he'll be a regular starter, but if he could be a solid backup and stay on a regular roster that could be several years of pretty nice paychecks.

Niners didn't spend draft picks for garopolo for nothing. If he proves out over the rest of the season, they'll try to sign him long term. Doesn't mean that CJ can't hang on as their #2. Or get a gig somewhere else.

Well yes. That and the fact they were playing the pathetic New York football Giants.

I Had the Giants -3.

Really? That may be. I only saw the midweek line and it favored SF by that amount. I guess the betting public saw that and thought easy money, switching the line back. I don't know why. SF may have been winless, but they hadn't given up. Anyone who has seen the Giants play since OBJ went down should have known better. They are worse than Cleveland and SF right now. The Giants are THE worst team in the NFL right now. Just pitiful.
