Great Article on the class of 2010-11 that I can't get to link over...Help someone please.

Talks about our Seniors of course and I noticed we lost Jake Ballweg and Anthony Baldosaro out of that class real early on.

It goes on to talk about other top 10 ranked wrestlers in that years class and how they have underperformed also.

#1 Steiber.....pretty good so far.
#2 Andrew Alton.....wow.
#3 Chris Villalonga-Cornell....not an AA so far.
#4 ???
#5 Marshall Peppleman...injuries have hampered him....17-16 record this year.
#6 Lee Munster-Northwestern....what did he ever do?
#7 Jackson Morse-Illinois....still hasn't AA.
#8 Dylan Alton......could he and is brother have...well...never mind.
#9 Tyler Beckwith-Binghamton....what's he done?
#10 Josh Kindig....1 AA

Wow....not very impressive for the Class of 2010-11 Top Ten ranked guys. It's not just our seniors. Wonder who the next 20 or 30 guys were and how they did?

I just reviewed the top 150 seniors in the class of 2010-2011. Only Logan Striebler (#1) and Jesse Delgado (#75) have won championships. Some more may win this year - Kokesh, Gadson, McMullan, Waters, Houdashelt ...

But the top guys fizzled.

BTW guess who was ranked just ahead of Delgado at #74?

Minny fab 5 also. Everyone gets upset because of the 'exceptions' to this evolving sport are scoring so many points yet Iowa is not. Iowa is part of the majority . We all know who they are and how we want our kids to wrestle like that. Iowa does well in recruiting along with other Big Ten schools, and once in a while you find your diamonds in the rough, Steiber, Taylor, Ruth, Metcalf, Mcllravy, etc and it is all sunshine and rainbows.

Iowas recruits will never be good enough for the fans. It seems like many of the Iowa fans feel like they are Dan Gable them selves.. Crazy.

The 86_90 kid or whatever the name is. Great job with your posting, I hope you put half of that effort into your past and present career.

Things are just fine, the majority of last nights whining should take care of it. Today decides how strong the team really is. Adversity... Upsets will continue to happen.

Mike and Nick, thanks for representing the great state of Iowa for the last 5 years. A lot of those TOP recruits in Kwoods post cannot say the same thing. Hope the day is injury free and successful for the Hawkeyes.

Delgado (#75 recruit) = diamond in the rough.

Stieber, Taylor, Ruth, Metcalf, McIlravy = diamonds.

There is an unarguable, positive, statistically significant correlation between high school P4P rank and future NCAA success. But it's not a straight line, as evidenced by the cursed class of 2010-11. Recruiting is a tough gig--so many factors you can't control, including injury, motivation, physical growth (fitting recruits into the available weight classes), how they're going to respond to the coaching and the environment and their teammates, whether they're going to stay eligible, etc. It's like picking hot tech stocks. I think we were smart in 2010 to get a mix of in-state and out-of-state, differing styles, a couple of wildcards (e.g. Baldosaro, Kelly), a range of weight classes. Other than Telford/Evans, they didn't pan out, and it created a multi-year drought. But I'm not sure I have any takeaway lesson for what to do differently in the future. Other than get Lee and Hall. (For the record, I'm looking forward to the Kemerer/Marinelli era.)

Agreed. But regarding the class of 2010/11 class; how much of the problem with that class was directly related to our guys? If our guys panned-out the class would look a lot better.

Our only top-10 was Evans (isn't he the missing #4 from kwood's list?).

Also note that we can't entirely blame our title drought on one recruiting class. Penn State still managed to eke out some titles despite the Altons' career performances.

I guess it was a bad year to have the #1 recruiting class.
