Cliff Moore was a stud and true Hawk great!

It was a pleasure watching Cliff compete. One of my favorite Iowa matches was when Cliff took apart previously-undefeated Scott Moore in the semis en route to his national title. Most people had Scott penciled in as national champ, and for good reason. Dude was very tough. Cliff believed, and he got it done. Solid guy off the mat, too. We don't have much of a history with Dubuque kids thriving for the Hawks, and that was good to see, too. My wife's a Dubuque native so I was a little extra fired up to see Cliff repping her home town in style.

He understood the trap of wrestling Scott Moore. He wisely didn't take the bait to put him on his back the easy way. He stayed down on the legs, then slowly worked up to the waist, no further, and the swiping for back points commenced.
