CMac

Brings him up to 33.3% from 3 on the year. And honestly it should be better than that, he has taken a handful of really low percentage ones to beat the shot clock

He hasn't been guarded on most of them. I think JBO would shoot 50 percent with the same shots. IF CMAC has a consistent 3pt shot while being left largely open, then he becomes a stud. He has had a couple good shooting games lately...maybe he will keep it up. That makes the team a lot better.

He just needs to do enough out there to be a threat. He’s not going to go 4-5 every game, but if he can start mixing in some 1-3 games in there, it’ll make the other team consider him. If he can be better than that, then he can really make teams pay for sagging off or really open things up for Luka.

I wonder how many shots he needs to hit in consecutive games for teams to stop putting his defender on Luka?

Im assuming this game isn't going to change the way they prepare for him yet.

Same with Keegan.

If Connor can shoot even half as well as he did today on his open looks its going to be huge.

just when I want to bury CM he goes and does this and totally screws everything up 😂. Seriously though he was huge today . And one thing that I noticed is that he didn’t let his brain get in the way, he just stepped up and shot in rhythm. Sometimes I think he overthinks it. And other than the one pass stolen in the first half his passing today was 💰. Great game Connor. Keep proving me wrong

I have been critical of him not shooting and am glad to eat crow. Him knocking down even a couple shots per game has the potential to change the dynamics significantly for Garza and the other shooters. Shot looked great today and he shot with confidence.
And he got Iowa going in the beginning when it looked like MI State might jump out to a lead. Upper class leadership. Iowa will need it next year.

Not sure if it was a result of the hot shooting, but he just looked more confident with the ball in general. He made some sick entry passes that resulted in fouls/buckets today

Bingo. If teams have to pay SOME attention to him, it is a game changer for Garza. It would be interesting to see a trend line on CMac's 3 point shooting this year, clearly headed in right direction.

Yes, I noticed a change starting 2 or 3 games ago. It looks like he's been really working on it
and the confidence that's given him can make all the difference.

Umm... In his 4 games before this he had 0, 3, 3, and 2 points. In each game he hit 1 shot on combined 3-14 shooting.

The trajectory and rotation on his shot is 10x better than it has been. Historically one shot looked good and the next would be flat with a sidewinder spin on it. Yesterday his shot was really smooth and looked effortless.

Good point. Iowa just looked like a different team yesterday. How much of that was because MSU is bad? Hard to say, but it appeared that Fran made some tweaks in the offense as the ball didn't stick as much it has, guys were cutting back door and spacing looked better. When Iowa stagnates the ball sticks on Garza's side, the other 4 guys stand around and ball reversals come too late in the shot clock to get the defense off balance.

Connor’s backdoor cuts were great. Both Nunge and Garza had one of their best games passing out of the post this year which, to your point about the ball sticking in the post in previous games, helped get us a ton of open looks

Connor stood in the corner and nobody on the Defense cares. All of a sudden he's got free run to the basket and easiest uncontested 2 you'll ever see. That happened twice. I think it could have happened another 50 times prior to this game. Use it and you'll see teams paying more attention to Connor and at least a little less to Luka because of it.

Very solid game after a very auspicious first 60-90 seconds! If that had been Joe T he would not have seen the floor the last 38+ minutes. Hoping the confidence is growing and the stroke gets better and better.
