"The University of Iowa, when contacted by the Register, verified Tuesday night that Francis would be leaving the program to take a coaching position elsewhere, but did not specify his new school as final paperwork had not been completed."

OK, here it is, the moment we've all been waiting for: Will Fran hire a defensive specialist?

I'd be ecstatic if Fran would bring on board either Dean Oliver or Matt Gatens.

I could get behind Gatens. The timing is pretty right on that one for a junior level assistant. Deano? No way. I'd be glad to get him, but he's ascending right now, not a chance. Let's catch him in a few years as a head coach we have an 'in' on.

While it would be great to have one of those guys back, I'm not sure either is a 'defensive specialist'. I agree with the OP; maybe look at division 2 or 3 head coaches?

Or perhaps Ryan Bowen might be interested in returning? Has been an assistant with the Nuggets for the past four or five years. Regardless, the job description should include specializes in defense and tireless and proven recruiter. That or the father of a top 50 recruit :)

Fran has reached critical mass with the Iowa program. Francis can feel the wheels spinning and feels he needs to get out while the get'en is good.

Now that Coach Francis is moving on how does that affect the recruits that he is the lead recruiter?

....or maybe he's a relatively young coach who has some professional goals he wants to fulfill.
