Maybe this has been discussed on here before, but when talking about Ferentz’ potential replacement why don’t we talk about Phil Parker at all?

I may be in the minority here but I would find it unlikely that a power 5 school would hire a coordinator. Its a big leap without any prior experience at the lower level with as small as a learning curve as there could be. I know that it does happen like Chris Ash at Rutgers, Will Muschcamp when he was at Florida and Chizek at Iowa state. With as much money is at stake for the athletic department, I don't think that any coach nowadays can really select their heir apparent. If I remember correctly Kirk did not invent Iowa Football. I am sure he will have a say in who is brought in to interview like I am sure that Hayden did. Maybe if Brian took over a smaller program first I would buy it

Five of the current SEC head coaches were hired without head coaching experience. It's not as unlikely as you suggest.

Parker appears to be more of a lifer as a position coach ... The fact he's stuck with Kirk for so long and not built up his resume sorrt of leads me to believe he just wants to ride this thing out with Kirk ...

There will be some serious holes to fill once guys like Morgan, Parker and O'Keefe retire. I hope a alot of thought and time are being put into making the necessary connections for the next coaching staff. Iowa needs top level and once again loyal coaches at every major spot. It will be imperative to the future success of the program to have the right staff in place at the the outset. We dont want to take any steps backward!

Has always seemed like a guy to me that doesn't want the BS that comes with the top job.

Yeah getting an experienced coach is nice in a vacuum, but not especially indicative of future success. Bob Stoops and Bill Snyder would like a word about whether a guy with no head coaching experience can be good as the head guy. KF only had 3 years at I-AA (now FCS) Maine of head coaching experience when he took over at Iowa.
