If I can seperate the 2 distinctions I'm not sure why you and others can't.

Yes he wrestled a good match however; I have always disliked wrestlers who drop to there knees in netural to me it is a way to stall or hope opponent makes a mistake...........just saying

I'm pretty sure we just talked about this match a couple weeks ago. Great win. Who would you rather have on your roster of the two? I hope the best for Ericskson but I don't see where he would ever fit into our lineup.
If he can handle a highly rated recruit that goes to another B1G team... he could find himself in the lineup some day. He was never in danger of losing that match in the video.
I'm relatively sure I know who a neutral observer would pick of those two.

Stalling isn't a part of Erickson's vocabulary. Anyone that has seen him wrestle other matches knows this.
I haven't seen Erickson wrestle enough to know if that is normal for him, but he appeared to me to be a kid who got himself a lead against another good wrestler and was protecting it, not wanting Early to get to his legs, etc. The score clearly wasn't indicative of the match, thought both wrestled pretty well, and Erickson fought off some nice attacks and had some good counters to keep himself out of trouble and in the lead. Erickson won this match of 2 good kids who are both in DI rooms today. Good for them.
I wouldn't say that Erickson's tendency is to quit wrestling and fight off a lead. Last year in the state tournament he was up by 14, went for a shot and got thrown in a head lock and pinned. Felt bad for the kid. Came back and wrestled to 3rd. Tough kid, have watched a lot of his matches. Glad he is on our team.
Well I'm a fan, based on what little I do know about him. That's a pisser for sure (the state tourney). I don't doubt that maybe he's hell on wheels quite often, but he wasn't in the Early match IMO, and that probably had a lot to do with Early's ability. He wrestled tough against another good kid and got his hand raised. Good enough for me.
It looked like good strategy to me. Early was waiting for Cole to walk into a shot. Cole wanted to tie up or let Early walk into his shot.
I just watched it and don't think Early was any more active until the final minute

In the freshmen division lol. The video posted of Cole beating Early was from two years ago. They both were at 152 this summer for Junior Nationals in Fargo, how'd that turn out? Cole is solid but not on Early's level. The question is where and when does Cole ever get in the Iowa line up?

Cole Erickson is a fine wrestler with a good future, but let's be real, Edwin Cooper has looked pretty good. Yeah he's had some slip ups vs Okie State, Maryland, and SDSU, but he is still performing well above what I thought he would do this year.
Erickson doesn't have a win anywhere near close enough to suggest he is as good as Cooper.

If Berge ends up at Iowa and is @174... CE's path to the starting lineup becomes harder. But as anyone on this forum can tell you, injuries and other issues will perhaps be in play.
By testament of those that apparently know him... CE is a hard worker and those kids get rewarded more often than not.
That was my point with LE... he looked weak and too lean at the weight vs. Erickson. Some kids can become stronger, but not everyone likely bulks up the same.
Several on here have stated how Stroker and Early will make these big strides at Minny. Given last years collapse at Nationals and the early season results... perhaps some here are giving too much credit to the shaky Gopher program.
If it eventually ends up Kem vs Stroker and Alex M vs LE... I like the Hawks chances better.
Minnesota must have offered Early a lot of money to go there. The Minnesota athletic department is a mess. Jrob is trending down and egghead is not the answer.

My sense is that Short, the current Minny 149 is too small to go 157, so I got Short 149, Stroker157, and Early165. Everyone here has Alex at 165 when he first gets to IC... hence my AlexM vs Early. But what the hell do I know? For Minny's sake... I can't see FS and LE at the same weight.
Both Short 49 and Kingsley 57 are back next year so either Early or Stroker may not have a spot? Kingsley already has a win over Early this year in an open. Short is only a sophomore, he did wrestle 52 in high school but im not sure hes big enough for 57. looks like four guys for three spots, a great problem to have. so who is gonna be sitting?
