Does locking up no worse than a 16-16 record keep us alive for NIT or new College Basketball Crown tournament? Which one picks first from Big Ten teams? Crown has contract to take two B1G teams, so I'd think they pick first, but I don't know.

If there is a coaching change, and likely ensuing transfers, would we even be able to play in either? Especially the Crown, which doesn't start until after NCAA Elite 8 - what a strange amount of time off for teams that play in that (especially if Nebraska or PSU does, since they're not even playing this next week in Indy)

Teams have the option of opting out of the NIT in favor of the CBC (if the NIT picks first).

No one wants this. A bunch of mediocre teams playing hungover in Vegas. I take that back, the players might, but not for the games.

50% of the fans of the teams playing will watch and that's about it. Maybe some hardcore basketball fans and degenerate gamblers.

I can't imagine Iowa would accept a Crown invite. They will have a new head coach and maybe 4 players left on the roster by the time that tourney tips off.

Curious how you field a team with all of the transfers. Usually starts right after last game for bad teams.

The NIT starts March 18-19, but the Crown doesn't start until March 31 (the week leading up to the Final Four).

The transfer portal opens on Monday, March 24, FWIW.

The portal doesn’t open. But most guys involved in non NCAA tournaments are already in contact with places to move to.

There are some NIL incentives to play the Crown but 2 weeks after selection Sunday and 1 week after the portal opens sounds like a disaster to me. Also heard that no teams under 7 scholarship players will be allowed to compete.

The NIT and clone tournaments, as indicated by others, are simply irrelevant.

Hardcore fans of the sport and relation of the players will watch.

The rest of us: Who cares?

I'm still confused. Which of these tournaments are considered the "better tournament"?

Did the NIT get overtaken by "the crown"?

(Thanks Fran for failing to make the NCAA tournament AGAIN.... now I have to ask questions about these lame tournaments)
Who knows. The last I had heard, the NIT was run by the NCAA, and included teams that had "missed the cut" of the NCAA tourney and was supposed to be "semi-prestigious" or a reward for just missing the NCAA. Then there was the CBI, maybe another one or two that went away.

I don't know much about the NIT or Crown, but the better tourney is the NCAA tourney.

Schools may opt out of the CBC and NIT. They may not opt out of the NCAA Tournament.
No, the auto bids for The Crown. They have to go. There are two auto bids from the Big Ten, Big 12, and Big East. The other ten spots are at-large. From what I've found since the conferences signed an agreement with Fox, the auto bids have to go. They can't opt out.

This is what I was wondering about as well.

I'm with Hassel ... if you are going to make the move, you make it. Fran can finish out the season, or you can play on with an interim, but you can't delay the coaching search while other jobs start to fill.

That would be the definition of insane to hold up the coaching change so Fran can coach out the NIT or CROWN. I'm going to watch the BTT game, but NIT or CROWN doesn't excite me. Reminds me of last years closeout loss to UTAH in NIT....one last garbage game.
We need some new blood.
