So this team had canceled their season but the kid got covid anyway and died from complications.

Well f***, now guys like Joe and aristotleiowa are gonna use his death as ammo to justify their crying about how sports should not be played (among other things), and how we're all wrong to think any other way.................

I know, I think he is a journalist or former journalist. They like to make the uncommon seem common as we are seeing now. And this kid was not playing football.

He left school in March. Football had nothing ho do with his death. He was morbidly obese, had not been to school since March and this is a totally bogus story as it relates to football.

Super sorry to hear about his death. With that said, it is important that the facts be clear as it comes to these issues. Thanks for providing context destewart.

It looks like the safe move is to cancel the cancellation of seasons.

On a serous note, feel bad for the guys family.

First and foremost, RIP to this young man.

Secondly, that reporter and his editor should get 3 slaps for that headline. This is why you cannot read any ****ing thing these days.

headline states,

California University of Pennsylvania football player dies due to COVID-19 complications

Then on the last line of the article, which they know damn well 80% of readers will not make it to, they state that

A cause of death was not given in the California University announcement.

they got their Covid related death headline from a Facebook post by his high school football team. Nice ****ing source.

Exactly...greatly complicating this, and other, serious things in this world is the portion of the media who don't even just slant the "news" their way anymore...they flat out make it up to suit their purposes.

Kinda like the DM Rag headline last week of a DM Teacher dying of COVID. Yes, the person died of COVID but was no where near a classroom that caused the death. And they wonder why fake news title is used these days. I remember when the news media used to be impartial. Sad what has happened to our media and lack of objective options.

It gets the attention. They are just as about $$$$$ as any business is. The high and mighty schtick is tiresome.

Hey, close enough right??? Maybe the kid had bad asthma or something beyond the obesity thing, but hey covid did it and we will use social media posts as sources.

In the study of young person deaths I just posted, of the risk factors, 41% of the deaths were obese.

I fell bad for this man's family and we will all await more accurate cause of death info.. It doesn't mean it wasn't COVID-19, just that the publication admitted they hadn't confirmed the actual cause of death yet.

I get your point, but keep in mind the way they classify people as obese is dumb. I’d guess probably 70+% of college football players would be technically obese according to BMI.

Compare this chart to our players. A 5’10” 210# running back is obese. So is a 6’3” 240# linebacker.

As a former teacher and coach, yes, Fake News!! Media is just a POS now. By the way, my significant other is a Journalism major and editor of an east coast newspaper! Larger than CR Gazette and DSM Register. She even says : Journalism is DEAD today! There, a teacher and Journalism major/ editor has weighed in! Note: she graduated from a prestigious university in Boston! It’s pathetic and a disgrace.

Editor's note: Central Catholic High School issued a statement Wednesday clarifying that it did not have official confirmation of the cause of death for Jamain Stephens

California University of Pennsylvania football player Jamain Stephens, 20, has died, the school announced Tuesday.

Stephens, a senior defensive lineman, was the son of former Pittsburgh Steelers and Cincinnati Bengals offensive lineman Jamain Stephens.

A Facebook post by Central Catholic High School in Pittsburgh, where Stephens played, said his cause of death was related to complications involving COVID-19.

The school issued a statement Wednesday clarifying that it removed the cause of death from the Facebook post.

So according to this, to be on the tippy-top edge of barely healthy, I need to get down to 180?!?! I know I need to drop some lbs, but good God, I'd look sick if i did that. And not the good street "sick", the actual adult usage of "sick".

I see. You don't understand how this game is being played then.
So this kid played football at one time, he got Covid, he died.
By connecting the dots, a football player died of Covid during the footbal season.

Journalists are absolute scum these days. They know the difference and do not care. They would be fired if working in corporate America.

A 6'10 guy that weighed 240 would be considered overweight? WHAT?!?! lol..

Corporate America is sort of morphing into this also.

I think you meant to say, "They are promoted when working in corporate America."
