Columbia, SC to Fort Lee, VA travel advice needed

Looking for something to do over a weekend in this area.

Boy #3(no pics) is scheduled to graduate from Basic Training on Sept 1st at Fort Jackson in Columbia, SC. We will be attending graduation on Thursday and then will have a weekend with him before we have to deliver him on Sunday evening to Fort Lee in Petersburg, VA(just South of Richmond).

Do we have any HORTers in the area? Any advice on what to spend Saturday doing? Places to stay? Places to eat?

We currently have a room reserved through Friday morning in Columbia but don't necessarily have to leave the area right away if we find something we would like to do. Really anything along the route between to two bases would be acceptable as we haven't secured lodging for Saturday night and would be ok with making or finishing the trip to Fort Lee on Sunday.

Have dinner at Motor Supply Co. in Columbia. I have twice and it was excellent both times.
