For a company hemmoraging video customers, its not a good idea to lose millions of sports fans...

Nice. Love seeing these greedy cable companies struggle.

Unfortunately instead of making improvements and making efficiency gains, they will just charge more for internet services and lower data limits in order to get more money from video streaming customers.

5 years from now.... All us "cord cutters". Will be paying as much or more for internet + streaming as we did for cable!

Sad but true. insatiable lust for corporate profits ruined a perfectly good business model and throw the consumer into an ever strange environment for consuming simple entertainmemt.

Comcast is not in Iowa? Noticed Iowa wasn't listed in their 'Big Ten' footprint.

Some folks see the Big Ten as being greedy too.

Blow up the current system. Institute a true a la carte system, not the faux a la carte that PSVue/Sling/etc are supposed to be. Cut the dead weight channels and pay $2 (crap like Bravo for my wife) -$5 (ESPN/BTN) per channel of what you want.

I'm all for it but if that was a profitable model then I feel like someone would've done that by now.

The days of people paying for stuff they don't watch is coming to an end. Delaney's whole financial dream is gonna crumble. Of course, by then he will ride off with a big fat retirement payday and the ruined traditions of the Big 10 in his wake....

I wouldn't say that, it's just still pretty new at this point. You're seeing companies playing with the idea, such as ESPN who is rolling out their individual streaming channel now (or maybe soon?). Other companies like Disney are also in the process of doing their own. What was lacking before was an internet base that could handle that amount of streaming as well as platforms for putting the individual channel apps together, which is now getting filled by things like Roku or Apple TVs.

I think over the next few years there is going to be a pretty big push to things like this. The other distribution systems like cable, satellite, or Sling will still exist, but losing a sizable chunk of their subscriptions to people like me who only will watch a couple channels and maybe something like HBO.

Yep, just a matter of time. I have a buddy that continually brings up the fact that 20 years ago I told him that cable and dish would be replaced and we would all be watching over the internet. It has taken a little longer than I anticipated, but here it is. And a la carte is soon to follow.

Midco has also dropped BTN

Yep. That got me. Midco is 49% owned by Comcast. I let the Midco rep have it and told him this is going to cost more overall customers than it would just keeping it. He said it was a "business decision". I told him dropping their service would also be a "business decision". At least with Midco it was a part of the sports pack so you paid a premium to get it. Not like regular joe cable customer paid for it as a part of their basic package. So I have no idea why they dropped BTN.

Two people on my block have already dropped Midco and I am considering cutting the cord as well. Looking at Hulu Live.

I hope you are right! Only paying for what you NEED, is all that a lot of people want!

Rutgers needs to be kicked out of the BIG. They were brought here for their big tv market and now they won't even provide that. Delaney needs to say bye bye to them and some other team. I would say Maryland. Bad at football and never any real threat in basketball

The problem is that it will all be so fragmented that we will end up being nickled and dimed to death. We'll probably end up paying more in the long run. These media companies are going to get their money one way or the other.

I was saying this when they only ran the opening episode of Star Trek: Discovery on CBS network, and then chose to have it offline on CBS's newer pay service too to help Star Trek fans nickled and dimed too last year. It is happening everywhere.

The nice thing about having a service like Dish is that you have one PVR to gather all of your shows to simplify that process, rather than having to find other means to archive off shows for later viewing, etc. which also take a lot more time and extra expense to do on top of just getting access to the shows via different means through internet access or other ways to begin with. That is another expense pushed on to users that isn't quantified either.

Definitely can see this happening too

Multiple comments about Comcast not being in NYC period. Just like Iowa and Neb dindo have Comcast

BIG Network not on Comcast in Kansas City anymore.......sure wished we’d got Mizzou instead of mighty Rutgers.

Yes because Iowa delivers such a massive market. Looks like future big paydays from the BTN are going to be a thing of the past.
