Complete Embarrassment

What exactly are we classifying as a personal attack? I haven’t read All of the Stanley threads, but I haven’t seen any personal attacks on the couple I have read. Stanley and the coaches for keeping him in the game cost Iowa the game yesterday, plain and simple. When you come play big boy football, you open yourself up to criticism. Personal attacks, not cool. But again, I haven’t really seen any of those.

Get over myself? Whatever dude, so your on record that it is ok to personally attack people because they don't play well. There is a difference MORON between personally attacking someone and being critical of there play. I guess its sad that you cannot tell the difference. I also re read what I wrote, please point out where I said anything about being Superior? Un huh, just as I thought.
You act like anyone should give a shit about some jackwagons rant. Get over it.

I think OP is being a little over sensitive here.

A) Yes they are 18-22. Again, doesn't absolve them from criticism
B) You again listed Stanley's career stats and called him "inconsistent." That is just excusing the problem, not acknowledging it.
C) And being overly reactionary/negative comes with every loss. Or are you new to sports?

No he isn't. He isn't talking about any of your bullet points. He is talking about presumably adults trashing young people working their ***** off for this team. The players deserve respect even when they are getting criticized for performance, not attacked like some idiots on here are doing ...

If you don't have kids you probably don't get it ... If you do, then shame on you. NOTE: I'm not aiming this directly at you ANYCHawk, unless you are trashing the players like the OP describes.

You going from thread to thread with the same 'ol rant about everybody being hateful
You contradict yourself though.......I didn't "personally" attack Nate and you indicated to me that I was a child. I was merely saying I was frustrated with his play and the decision making in general by the coaches. They almost had to work hard to lose this game. I think Nate is probably a fine young man, probably a pretty good student and I thank him for picking Iowa. However, giving opinions (good or bad) are what these boards are for and being a fan in general is all about. The fact is that Iowa has a pretty good defense this year and are completely wasting it. So, you might want to get over yourself to be honest.......
Well said. And scotthawk, you need to understand a lot of these mid-game / post-game forum comments are overly angry bc they are alcohol-fueled, which I see as normal. Booze does that. Your repeated comments of calling people pricks and a$$holes were tiresome. Most probably re-checked their forum comments after a night's sleep and realized how dramatic they were. They don't need you here to shake a stern finger in disapproval.

Sounds like OP is reacting the same as 9 out of 10 Iowa fans on this board. Go Cats!

Why, every time Iowa loses do we have fans that come here and take the loss personally and make a complete ass of themselves on the board? Every loss, it does not matter to who, what or how the game went down. It is ok to be critical, but I read so many threads here are just plain down right hateful. We all know Stanley did not have a great game, but for people to personally attack him like he just raped your daughter is ridiculous. Hell, one asshole even had to say he was retarded when doing his interviews. Really, that is a grown up thing to say? These are 18, 19 and 20 year old kids that make mistakes. Like I said, being critical is fine, but the constant trashing of players and coaches after every single loss is disgraceful. If any of the coaches or players personally hurt you, by all means call them out, but no one feels worse about a loss then the team. And for you people who say Stanley sucks, remember this. Before today's game, Stanley has thrown 42 TD's to 12 INT's. Has he been inconsistent, yes, but suck, NO. If you want Mansell, fine, but stop trashing Stanley on a personal basis. My 12 year old is more mature then half the people here. Rant over, Penn State over. Move on people, or get a hobby.
Spot on.

Not entirely true. They owe us plently. They owe us not to be knuckleheads, to try their hardest every game, to preform to the level they capable and to put the school and program in the best light possible. Most players do that, for us thank god, 99 percent of the time

Problem was today with Nate being so inexcusably bad, missing "middle school throws," I think its far to question whether he met two of those four things. Do I think he tried his hardest? Yes I do. Do I think he came close to preforming to a level he is capable. No I do not.

They "owe" you something? What a completely foolish thing to say. You owe me a blowjob

There has been plenty. One idiot went as far as calling him a mental midget.

This is the personal attack you are referring to. Good grief, get a thicker skin.
If I posted that Miguel Recinos was a mental midget knowing that there was a good chance that his dad, a frequent contributor here, would see, would you tell him (when he almost definitely would become reasonably offended) to get a thicker skin? Or would you call me out for being a tool, anonymously bagging on somebody online because they didn’t play football up to my standard?

The point is that, regardless of how bad it is, namecalling is inflammatory and adds nothing to any discussion. I’m not getting offended by anything said by anybody on here, but still think it’s a bad look for all of us when people are doing that

That is one example yes. You need to get a life if you think personally attacking any student-athlete is acceptable.

I never said it was acceptable. I do think if you are going to play big boy football, you better learn to handle criticism and negative things said about you. Get some thicker skin. I wonder how you handle a tough boss. Go cry in the corner?

And in response to parents of players posting here. I am sure Nate’s parents realize he didn’t play well. It would be foolish of them to come around to a message board where anonymous “fanatics” hang out.

There is a difference between criticism and going over the line and attacking the kids personally or going to far. There are definitely people who take it too far. I like Stanley and think he is a good kid and represents the University well. He just isn’t that good of QB. It also hurts they don’t have a great RB. That could help with things.

I handle people just fine. As I am sure the players do as well. My personal opinion is so called fans should leave the personal attacks at home for 18-22 years old playing a football game. But, hey that is just me.

If they were serving in the military at their age would they still be kids? If they killed someone, would they be tried as an adult or as a juvenile?
You define them as kids. Society disagrees with you.
And it's a game not life and death.

Age means nothing its just a number doesnt change how you think.
Even kids get frustrated. At 43 i would be hard pressed to say i act any different then when i was 18.
These forums are more for venting then anything else and its better here then possibly out in the real world.

Playing the devil's advocate on this one. You never know who is reading what and how it is affecting someone. Look at the people who think they have a right to tell random strangers to go kill themselves on the internet and then the person does it. Or those that bully someone they don't know because "it's just the internet" and that person breaks down and shoots up a place. Being behind a keyboard doesn't give a free pass to anyone to be hateful and vicious toward someone else. Let alone someone else they probably have never met in person. Players and fans alike read these boards whether people here believe that or not.

I completely agree that specific players should not be "attacked". I also have concerns about calling out groups of players (by position, for example.) After all, it is a pretty safe assumption that team members want to win at least as much as any of us! It is also safe to assume that most players would, on occasion, do some things differently, particularly given the opportunity to sit comfortably in their living room and rethink their actions and redo the play! In terms of the coaching staff, part of what they get paid for is putting up with fans who know little or some, but never as much, about the game and/or the team as they do. All of that said, we all have an emotional attachment to the football program or we would not be reading this forum and following the team's play. The need to vent is real. Some of us have a balanced life and are mature in that we have (what some may view as) a balanced perspective. Others, not so much. Bottomline: this is a "Free Board" and we all get what we pay for. Also, there are headings and we are free to pick and choose.

Let me know when you find a player that performs to the level they're capable all the time. That's an impossible bar to set.

If my boss called me a mental midget (or similar) on anything resembling a recurring basis, I'd get a different job. Life is too short to work for a tool like that.

I saw about 20 other starters do that on Saturday

That's one game. I've seen every player do it from time to time. None that do it always. You implied that a player owes it to us to play up to the level their capable of. I contend that no player can do that every play, every game. So being upset that Stanley didn't give us what he owes us is just plain stupid.

I think your confusing "maximum level of attainable skill" with "level he is capable."

I'll use video game rarings comparison, if a player is a 84 overall in expect him to preform like an 84 overall. Sure the stars night align and he might play like a 92. Or he might have an off day and perform like a 78. Its not ok for him to perform like a 43. Stanley was a 43

So are you saying he's capable of a 92 or not?

It happens with every fan base. People on the PSU board want to fire the coaches even when we win, if we don’t win by enough in their view. Fans somehow feel entitled to trash the players and coaches, but it’s just wrong. The internet anonymity brings out the worst in some people.
