Concerns mount, ISU Cyclones losing season

I've been shocked for the past 3 years that Jackson is still their coach. Great wrestler in his day. Nice guy (I interviewed him for a feature article during my days at the ISU newspaper) ... He's simply not getting it done. He's getting decent recruits but it's just not happening on the mat. In my opinion, ISU should always be a Top 10 program (history, popularity of wrestling in Iowa, facilities, fan support - although I'm not up to speed on ISU fan interest current time).

This is how it starts. AD leaks that he is "concerned" with the progress and it becomes news. It does three things: Puts the current coach in the hot seat, validates fans concerns, and starts letting other coaches know ISU may be in play. If ISU finishes in the top ten, his job is safe for another year. If they have 0 or maybe 1 AAs, then he is gone IMO.

Pollard is a lousy AD. Letting two of the best coaches that they have ever had get away will be his legacy. I can't believe he received an extension. Pollard won't fix the problem, it will probably get worse. They will probably pomote the Paulson brothers to be co-head coaches. I love to hate state, but it makes the Hawks better, when they are better.

What's bad for Iowa State is great for Iowa. This state doesn't produce enough talent for 1 top program. The more irrelevant they are the better.

I like ISU being down because it seems like they recruit head to head vs UNI more than Iowa. I do miss how competitive the dual meet was year in and year out.

I wonder what MitchL thinks about this article......
Randy consulted with me before he wrote it. Told him that there were two ways to look at it.
1. Status quo... never sniff the top ten again.

2. Sacrifice a recruiting class and get someone better.

I laugh at the only reason to keep him. Supposedly two good recruiting classes back to back. But we all know what happens when those top guys enter the room.

I never looked at it that way but yes, not being able to retain Cael and the mayor gets a free pass to easily. Plus he fired their best football coach in McCartney and never quite replaced it or gotten better.

What happens when PD3 pins his way thru 3 weight classes this year?

Thats a terribly low standard if you ask me. I would think less than 3 gets him gone but you are probably right. They dont seem to care much these days.

Let's face it. If we are worried about losing recruits to our little sisters in Ames, then we will never have to worry about catching up to PSU. It wasn't always this way, but their recruits and what we need to win titles again, should rarely, if ever meet in the same sentence.

I just saw that. So PD3, the same guy who has ducked everyone all year while his teammates are getting curb stomped, has more heart than the rest of the team combined?! I know PD2 is a deranged lunatic but way to throw your kid under the bus to the team. I mean Crazy Dad got his room info on the team from someone.

I agree. As a Father of a couple athletes myself PD2 is so sad to watch. He used to be more amusing and pathetic but now it is unlike about anything I have ever seen. Challenging people with threats of broken jaws and posting on a Clown board his boy's junior club has more heart than the current Clown team?! While he may be right, sure the guys on the team love those comments. And by the way, at least they actually wrestle.

Great idea. With the way he is he could have a personal live-in shrink and wrestling for life would have a war chest!

Am I the only one who thinks if Lil Dooney loses against Boyd today...we might hear of some mysterious season-ending injury?

Unreal. He must be unseeded period. What a joke. I have never seen a bigger pussy especially with he and his Dad chirping. According to Dad and Son no reason to wrestle at all until March. Horrible for the sport.
