Not related to JBo's absence , but I'm pleasantly surprised by the rebounding this year. Wish the free throw rate was higher...

on free throws, I feel like Garza went through a bit of a funk but he’s usually pretty good, like 70%+ isn’t he?

It's funny because over on the main board, Big Ten fans go ape sh** every game complaining that Iowa gets to the foul line too much.

Also, there needs to be an adjusted defensive stat that takes in pace of play, because Iowa's pace of play has to be among the tops in the country, which makes a big difference in what kind of game is played.

I don't know past stats, but Iowa's defense on 3-pointers seems to have improved a hell of a lot compared to the past few years.

Some of it is Fredrick and Connor instead of Bohannon (and Moss), but we've also played 5 of our 8 B10 games against the bottom half of three point shooting teams, only Michigan and Nebraska in the upper half. We'll see if it continues against better shooting teams going forward.

Who are the better 3-point shooting teams in the B10this year? I know Michigan has been on a slide, but they were considered a good 3-point team until recently. Judging by records, I guess Indiana and Illinois are good 3-point shooting teams. I saw a stat about Purdue--they're like 47 percent at home and absolutely atrocious on the road, and I think Iowa plays at Mackey in the next couple weeks. I assume Michigan State is a good 3-point shooting team. Maryland? I don't know their stats, but Iowa shut them down pretty well. Iowa handled Minnesota pretty well, too, and I think they've got a couple good 3-point shooters.

I think it helps that Iowa has Garza and Kreiner playing good D down low affecting guards driving to the basket this year. It allows Iowa's perimeter guys to play a little tighter outside compared to the last couple years when Iowa didn't have an inside presence to intimidate (that was one of Tyler Cook's few flaws, from what I remember). As of now, I feel confidant, but we'll see.

Big thing for me is turnover rate is too high, it's having a negative impact on defensive metrics as a lot of them are live ball. Before he shut it down, we were top 20 nationally weren't we? Better ball control and this team might end up scary, scary good
