A lot of talk about whether or not success in the conference tournament translates to success in the NCAA tournament so I thought I would do a little digging. I looked back at the last 5 NCAA Final Fours (2015-2019) and wanted to see how those teams did in their conference tournaments those years. Here is what I found:
10 teams won their Conference tournament
3 teams lost in the Championship game
4 teams lost in the Semi Finals
2 lost in the Quarter finals
1 team lost in the 2nd Round
The only team that didn't at least make the Quarters in their conference tournament was 10 seed Syracuse in 2016. From this it looks like there is a pretty decent connection between success in Conference Tournaments to NCAA tournaments. It obviously does not guarantee success but 17 of 20 at least make it to the Semi Finals and half win their conference tournament. Did this pretty quick so may have made an error along the way. Just thought it may be interesting to some when looking ahead to Iowa's upcoming games.
