Congrats to the Iowa Women

I was more nervous for this game than for any of the men's games. I thought to myself ... why is that?

I figured out that while I am more of a fan of the men's team, the entire State is behind the gals! I was rooting not only for the women, but for thousands and thousands and thousands of their followers.

I imagine their will be thousands in Seattle to cheer on the Hawks to the E8!

Clark dominated the second half. Some of those passes has a lot of zip and we’re right on the money. She accounted for most of the 2nd half points with scoring or assists.

Listened to it on the radio. None of the youtube highlights show the hard foul drama at the end. Dammit.

Wanted to add one more thing. Georgia showed zero class at the end. Two intentional fouls at the end. Gabbie took a vicious hit to the face, total BS bulldogs.
Yep. One of the most shameful displays I have seen on the court in a long time. Glad that team is going home, sometimes you get exactly what you deserve…

Great job by the ladies! They are making the state proud.

Clean up the turnovers, and they will go a long way.

Just watched the GA vs. VCU game highlights...... terrible! kick to the head, shoving players, 5 players ejected!

Unfortunately I missed the game. I don't suppose it will be replayed?

This game was a good test. Iowa was extremely sloppy and I’ll give Georgia credit for their stingy defense. Georgia’s length really bothered us but we’re going to see more of that especially if we meet up with SC. We were out rebounded badly and SC out rebounded Georgia badly last time they met. Georgia came out motivated, determined and played with a chip. My game ball goes to Gabbie. She was on target and played extremely smart. Hopefully she didn’t lose her gum during that hard foul though. 😂

Agreed. I have watched all their games this year and this was one of the worst games passing the ball. Today was more like pre-Clark ball possession and lazy passes. Hopefully a one-off game.

I think the hawk ladies had a lot of pressure on them after last year's exit loss and they were not quite ready for that quick, crazy, trapping type zone defense.

But that being said some of those bad passes they had were ones they are just used to being open lanes.

I think they will definitely work on it and get crisp and better for the next games.

SC is a long, long way off. One game at a time. Duke and Stanford will be tremendous tests.

This was a good one to get the Creighton game from last year in their rear view mirror. I agree with the earlier poster, the passing was the worst I've ever seen.

I understand that but Georgia played SC twice. The first game wasn’t competitive the second was. To some, including myself it’s an indication on what Iowa is going to be dealing with and what they need to improve on.

I didn’t realize the SEC was so loaded. Just tuned into the LSU/Michigan game and 3rd seed LSU is 29-2! Holy under seeded Batman.

LSU played a piss poor non-conference schedule, including more Quad 4 opponents than any other P5 team. They're a quality team for sure but the record is inflated by weak scheduling.

that's the thing with what Caitlin and this group has done here. I see it with youth girls basketball the last 2 years. they've inspired thousands of little girls to pick up the game and follow them. Just watch after games how many hundreds hang around long after the game to hopefully meet their heroes and get a picture. im not sure ive ever seen a better story than what's unfolding because of this group. lots of new fans. almost a generational movement here

We leave through the tunnel after the games and the line of little girls with their parents to get an autograph from their favorite player is enormous. There’s a lot of parents getting Caitlyn’s autograph truth be told. 😉

Have to give a big shout out to the Strength and Conditioning staff for the ladies. I don't think they substituted in the fourth quarter and they looked to still have their legs in a very intense battle. I'm sure they were exhausted after the festivities were all said and done.

I loved the win but the one question I had most of the game was why did Bluder take the ball out of Clarks hands most of the game. No other player drives the lane so we turned it over a lot or took questionable shots. Let Clark be Clark!!!!

My impression after watching the game in person is that Georgia was grossly under seeded. Destroyed us on the boards and on hustle plays but our 3 pt. shooting saved us. Really hope Stuelke is ready for Seattle.

did she? Defenses and their schemes are factors here to remember. Georgia was determined that #22 was not going to beat them. They schemed their game plan that way.
It was very apparent to me, in the post game the first words out of the Georgia coaches mouth was “Clark was not the best player on the floor today....(our player) was...”
The Georgia coach might have won her battle but she lost the war.
For a CR gal, I thought she might have handled it better. Did she realize that in the second half, #22 was responsible for like 31 of the last 33 points Iowa scored in the game....when the game was decided.

What surprised me about that was their headcoach grew up in CR and played on a Hawkeye Sweet 16 team. You wouldn't think she'd want that.

I didn't see or hear Katie's remarks, but that was a stupid thing to say.

Maybe. Their schedule looks like a 8-9 seed, I'd say. They finished 6th or so in the SEC and had few quality wins. So maybe underseeded but not grossly, I dont think. 2nd round of the tourney is gonna be tough, regardless.

You also have to remember that the SEC is a different beast. I mean look at what Ole Miss just did, beating Stanford AT Stanford. I’m not sure we’ve played an SEC team since CC has been here but it’s a real shock to your system when you play them for the first time.

Similar to Creighton last year, Georgia hadn't gelled yet in the non-conference so they dropped some questionable losses with no notable wins. They grew more comfortable and improved throughout SEC play, winning most all of the games they "should" win. they never upset a ranked team, but played them close, showing their potential. It's a 10-seed caliber resume with a potential 5- or 6-seed ceiling / talent level.

They are extra dangerous in a tournament setting because their unique matchup 3-2 takes opposing offenses wayyyy out of the way they are used to playing with minimal time to prep. It's an effective way to neutralize the talent deficiency they have offensively.

We can usually count on 12 to 15 points per game -- or more! -- on the set plays between Caitlin and Monika that we run so well against man defenses. But throw all that out the window against Georgia because they way they scheme defensively completely disrupts the way we usually space the floor. Ir forced us to essentially run an entirely different offensive scheme, operating mainly from the high post and corners as opposed to the top of the key and the two wings. Even something as fundamental as a ball reversal feels alien, and that really wears on you over the course of the game. It showed especially with Kate and McKenna.

Luckily Caitlin has a basketball IQ through the roof and was able to handle facilitate just well enough to lead us to victory. And we truly needed every last one of her assists! Most games when she gets 10+ assists, the last few are just garbage time highlight plays kicking out to spot up shooters and such. But yesterday she was under pressure to make those decisions on every possession until the very end because no one else on our roster could handle it. Just clutch stuff from her!

SEC is good but we are 3-0 against them in the last 4 tournaments, beating Georgia, Rhyne Howard's Kentucky team in 2021, and Sophie Cunningham's Missouri team in 2019. Bluder rarely schedules them in the non conference.
