What a great event! Big props to Coach Brands and Hawkeye wrestling for putting this together. Hopefully it is a kickoff for many more similar events. You all were ready to go today. What a disaster 184 was for us, Brooks looked good. I thought we would get more bonus, wow was I wrong! That 157 match was nuts, I couldn't keep up! CM needs to figure out his weight/gas. In the interview with Jason Bryant coach Smith said it wasn't a lot of weight, but CM just wasn't good at it. Hopefully he figures it out. Once again thanks and congrats!!

Sat right next to a large contingent of OSU fans. They were loud and pretty good natured (if a bit subdued by the end). I appreciated them making the trip out, it made a great event even more fun!

Congrats to Iowa on a great win! 149, 184 surprised me, right now they could wrestle 5 more matches against each other and the outcome will be the same. I thought Stoll looked good. On OSU side, have to say Nolan Boyd looked good in his loss, time for him to put some weight on. Most of our wrestlers looked tired or gassed. Early in the season is the only thing I can use as a excuse why it looked pretty bad out there, even then I'm only being a homer by saying that. Great team effort Iowa!

One thing I loved is there was a lot of excitement today, which is great for bringing new fans to the sport. 157 and 174 were really high scoring, drama packed matches. Some matches lacked a little luster, but for the most part a lot of the guys were getting after it.

I don't wonder if the colder than wrestling normal temps and being outside didn't affect OSU more? They'll never admit it, but I think it did.

Huge props to Smith and Co for agreeing to be a part of this and meeting that challenge head on.

Hey, Mike... Be sure and tell your sister/wife how cordial the Iowa fans were to you!

I thought the Okie St fans were pretty great today. It was really cool of so many to make the trip to the event. They're much better fan base then "We are...";)

Classy stuff Mike...Nolan made me sweat a bit. Your boys just looked off and gassed today. Felt bad for Marstellar...I guess its because I've watched so much of him over the years that he's a shell of his former self...kind of like how I felt for Alton against Collica last year, except Collica knew how to close it out. Anyways, just one match and JS usually has em ready for March anyways. You think Joe's shirt will get pulled?

Yes, I hate Okie State as much as anyone, but will admit, it was really cool they were willing to do this today.

Clarification: This statement doesn't apply to you, Mike.

I may not like as much as the others around here.

I feel the stalling for backing up is have a positive influence on making people wrestle. Points are being forced by guys wrestling, guys getting penalized or guys having to wrestle and then gassing thus creating more opportunities to score.

I like it, too. Would be better to have a push-out, but it's progress.

I do like the stalling calls yesterday, it only made me yell at my computer at the OSU guys doing it. I only saw one that I would question, so over all it was officiated pretty well. Az, after SS if Chance or R Blees don't make major strides by then Joe will be in. Also in the next month and half Joe will be tested by some of the best guys out there, I think he has what it takes to be a AA this year, how high don't know now, but will by Jan 3.

I don't know why for sure, but I felt bad for Marstellar as well. Hard to see a guy like that just struggle to breathe. Part of the deal though I guess, but man that was ugly. Very much Andrew Alton like. Tough to watch, but he won and he's the "enemy", so that's bad..................

Props to coach Smith and his team for their participation and effort. As I have told many people when I talked about this, Smith sits right beside Dan Gable when it comes to being an ambassador for the sport of wrestling so I believe it was a natural that they were the opponent. While I am thrilled the Hawks won and beat OSU, the attention of the event is absolutely awesome. It would have been really strange to happen, but I kind of wish that Brands would have taken the mic and thanked the athletic dept staff, the fans and OSU for their participation. This took many man/woman hours to make possible and it would have been classy.

I was away from television most of the weekend, so did this event get any airtime on ESPN? I doubt it because it did not include any SEC teams.

I watched the late-night SportsCenter Saturday and again Sunday morning (it was pretty much the same telecast). Grapple on the Gridiron was the second story, worked into a package that went from GotG to OkSU/ISU football to UI/Minny football. It was very well done, I thought (though not nearly long enough, obviously).

I believe they also mentioned that there were more people at the Grapple than attended No. 1 Clemson's football game on Saturday, by a factor of several thousand. That's pretty astonishing in itself.
