Connor M

I think last night, with a team like UNC, we needed Joe T. and his athleticism. JB and JT on the court was a good combination. Other nights we will need CM to be on the floor more. That's what's great about this team, we have several combinations we can use to against different teams to help us gain the upper hand. It's up to Fran to find that combo. That's kind of a scary thought, but I he nailed it last night.

I m not sure I've seen any other players like him.
He is not really prolific in anything but he really is almost Fran on the floor from the perspective that he gets what needs to be done and others see and understand it and with the Garzilla as part of that they are extremely hard to stop in the offensive court.

I agree and have thought for a long time that his future is in coaching. He can make some great money and probably be very successful. He might be good enough to be a professional somewhere, but I don't think that is required.

I'm going to respectively say that the Hawkeyes don't need any more "calming" effect....every starter except Garza are too stoic....especially on defense. This team won't truly be special until guys learn to defend the hoop at all times...don't let guys just race by for easy layups as they stand flat footed and watch...and that extends to the offensive glass....guys just stand on perimeter and watch the one-shot-and-done...never crashing the boards....helping out Garza.

With that said. Toussaint is clearly the better play maker, defender and scorer....he deserves, and this team deserves him to be the starter over Conner. For that matter, Murray needs more PT...clearly he is maybe one fo the best rounded players already on the team...and he plays defense.

I’m not going to disagree Starhawk. Last night was a rough matchup for him. 6-5 trying to guard their bigs was putting us in trouble in the 2nd half. The best thing that happened to us was his 3rd foul and Joe T coming in. We also needed Nunge’s size and I thought he did ok even though he didn’t shoot it well. There will be games Connor will be a better matchup. Last night was not one. The good thing is we have so much more versatility now it actually worked out better.

I think the Gonzaga game will tell us more now that they took UNC’s punch in the mouth. Felt to me like the team played as a favorite all last night. Which was great to see. Zero panic. Although Fran tightened the rotation and some guys looked tired at times.

Connor is so valuable. But that Joe T / J-Bo at 2 combo looked lethal last night. We will have some incredible depth and lineup combinations this year.

Seriously I love some Joe T but let’s reign in expectations. His role is the pg, he is not in the ballpark shooting wise with all starters, including Conner. A better scorer than J Bo, CJF, JW? Our starting 5 and their experience is what won this game, just enjoy the ride.

We match up better with Gonzaga than UNC.
They think Timmie is going to check Luka? Lol

I can't say as I agree on the rebounding part here. UNC came in known as a great rebounding team that had so far outrebounded opponents by like 18 per game. We matched them on the offensive glass and they outrebounded us overall by 9 (and Iowa took 11 more shots than UNC, so more opportunities for boards).

Don't agree w/matching up better w/Gonzaga than Carolina. Carolina has very inexperienced and frankly not very good guard play right now. So they didn't really exploit our defensive issues that way. Tons of good bigs and they did score a ton of points in the paint but they will do that on everyone. Gonzaga can score from everywhere on the court, there bigs can score inside and out and of course Suggs might be the best Freshman in the country at the point. We'll score a ton in my opinion but just not sure we can outscore them. Way more skilled players than Carolina.

Fran has a lot of buttons he can push, will be huge come tourney time when we play smaller teams. The talent on this team is starting to reveal itself, I don’t think I’ve ever had so much fun watching a team. Even when NC made their run I was till confident they’d pull it out. Rare feeling

Have to agree :(. Carolina plays mediocre d and can't shoot unlike zags

Carolina, and Roy’s teams in general, are little like Frans teams in that they don’t love defense. They just generally are more talented in 8 out of every 10 games it doesn’t matter. He’s got some good big this year and plenty of talent but like Kentucky, seem to lack shooters. While we aren’t the most athletic team, we are very skilled at all positions and of course very experienced. Love this team.

That's true. Though I suspect Ayayi & Nembhard will eventually warm up from behind the arc.

those two and Suggs will kill Iowa in transition, also their length on the perimeter will cause problems. Going to be a very fun game. Iowa’s talent is trying so little on D it almost tricks the other team into relaxing on D as well. Zags being a deep team will help tho

??? Why was Connor so pissed, not following here....tia
Me not getting it either Rambler
