Wait what? Connor has been made huge contributions to the team's success and all, but I would say most would deem his sportsmanship on par with his 3 point shooting %. Didn't the guy lead the Big 10 in technicals this year...as well as minutes with a scowl on his face?

I could see him winning a teammate award or hustle award, but who on earth would vote him for a sportsmanship award?

This is the award description: "The students chosen are individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. These students must also be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting." TV commentators have noted CMac is a very good student, so I'm guessing he has a lot of "good citizenship" to his credit as well.

I think it is an interesting choice. Connor is tough as nails and doesn't back down but he never escalates, even after guys get in his face. A lot of players would have pushed it punched after having a fake elbow thrown at his face. I really respect his toughness and respect that he doesn't back down but also really doesn't instigate things. He just plays hard.

He gets targeted because his dad is the only BIG coach in history to ever get upset during a game. Too bad his dad can't be the quiet, affable types like Tom Izzo, Bo Ryan, or before that Bob Knight. So Connor gets shit but I still would love to see what BIG player has his shit together academically, socially, or athletically like Connor does.

Nice try at a diss but Connor is currently 34% from 3 while the NCAA average is 33%. So I guess what you’re saying is that Connor’s sportsmanship is above average.....I guess he DOES deserve the award.

No mock on Conner; but, getting the Good Sportsmanship Award is laughable. Wow I could see Joe W. getting it.

so he would be a better sportsman if he backed down ? I don't think being intimidated makes you a better sportsman.

Connor deserves every accolade he gets. He's the glue and the director of our offense. We're not close to 20-11 without him. He does all the little things that don't get noticed.

Certainly he has played very well and a stabilizer for the team; but, this is a Sportsmanship Award. Has nothing to do with win loss contribution.

Connor has been great and big reason the hawks have had the success they have had even with losing numerous players. I LOVE his toughness and grit for sure but this award is kinda head scratching to say the least.

I appreciate Connor, and I really appreciate his toughness, but there has to be a reason he's jawing with someone every game and that he's the one caught in the middle of nearly every scuffle we've had this year. I love it on MY team, but I do question whether he deserves this award.

Suterman - congrats on the 20,000 posts and devoting hundreds of hours as a message board tough guy. Now fill me in the actual subject of this thread, how Connor earned a "sportsmanship award" over anyone else on the Iowa roster.

Has anyone seen the clip of Evelyn joyfully celebrating from the bench when the Hawks hit a shot? What about Toussaint's infectious enthusiasm that makes him liked even by other teams? Wiesy never loses his cool. Or someone like Till who has stuck it out and plays his heart out in limited opportunities. What sportsmanship has Connor displayed that they haven't?

Gary/hawkeyekid - If you are basing the "SPORTSMANSHIP" award simply by not punching a guy who deserved it, the award would hands down go to Luka Garza. Luka has had his nose bashed in, lip elbowed, tooth knocked sideways over and over again. Not once has he retaliated, and he is generally liked and respected by opponents. He doesn't run down the court with an angry scowl on his face like the one permanently plastered on Connor's face.

Connor leads the Big 10 in technical fouls (i.e. a call specifically designed for BAD SPORTSMANSHIP). How does that warrant this particular award? I'm waiting for a valid explanation, and to the ask a valid question is not "trolling" just because your panties are in a bunch.

Perhaps Legend hit the nail on the head?

7th post and you're ripping a great Hawkeye for winning a prestigious award. Troll with it baby.
