Connor out 3-4 weeks, mono

Williams leaves, J Bo bad foot, Conner ill. This season is at serious risk before it starts. I'd not be shocked if Conner redshirts.

On the positive side Baer, Nunge, Cook, and Garza will eat a lot of front court minutes.

This is looking like an NIT year. Very disappointed that Dailey got zero minutes the second half.

Damn pretty early to make that proclamation when we’re 3-0. But yes there are concerns. The tourney next week should tell us a lot.

I suspect by playing 1 game, Connor gave up right to sit out season and would need a medical redshirt.

The mono will not keep him out all season for medical reasons, so unless some other injury appears, I think he has already started the clock to use 1 year of eligibility.

If you didn't need medical documentation for medical RS, then why wouldn't every coach play his Freshmen the 1st 6 games or so and then redshirt? Instead we see Freshmen that RS play in only exhibition game.

He hasn’t played in a real game yet. RS is still available.

It's easy to see it right now and my proclamation is a matter that the issue cannot be fixed. We will be exposed in the near future when the quality of opponents improve.

Front court is NCAA worthy with Nunge, Cook and Garza (and Baer). Moss is good too and JBO on the offensive end. But back court defense is so deficient it will lead to major problems.

True but the defense is basically the same with or without Pete and we were an Omaha loss from the tourney. Not saying you’re wrong but if the freshmen progress in defense and make it merely below average, we’ll be ok.

Mono is nothing to sneeze at...he, Connor, even if he becomes well enough to return will not provide the energy that is needed to help this team in February and beyond. What a shame and bad luck for the kid. Hopefully he will return next year fully heathy....

If he is truly out 3-4 weeks, he should absolutely not play this season. That being said, I think he just isn't sure about his baseball decision yet. I've had mono, and would not have been jumping around in a pre-game mosh pit during my illness. Not sayin', just sayin'.

Do you have a man crush on Dailey? Every other post... Fran must have reasons why he doesn't give him major minutes, even when guys are out.

Getting Baer back is going to make a big difference, especially on the defensive end, but our perimeter defense is a major weakness.

Dailey is the only backcourt guy after the starters Moss & JBO that has any potential. I'm not including Connor yet until he hits the floor. Brady's a 3 point specialist that's it.

I still haven't been able to watch a game this year, so I cannot assess why Fran does not give Dailey minutes. I agree that Brady is not a PG, but I think he would be fine as the back up behind Moss. I felt a lot better about the season when Connor took off his RS, but he needs to get on the floor. I think we need a healthy Bear Cage to cover up some of our deficiencies.

this team did just fine last year W/O Connor and William avg'd a little over 12 mpg and scored a little over 2 ppg. you can't miss a player you never had

also I think JBo did just fine against this better competition in the BT some of you keep harping on as he did have 175 assist and 89 made 3's some of his games came against top competition
TCU NIT Champoin 25 points 13 assists
Indiana 24 points 10 assists
Maryland 24 points 8-10 from 3 with 5 assists
these comment about [just wait till they either play better competition or get into the BT] just does this for me:confused:

What bothers me most is that he will probably transfer if he doesn't move ahead of Brady by the end of the year. Reminds me of Jacob Hillyer playing over Derrick Willies. Not that I expect Dailey to be first team all american but this reminds me somewhat of the MCcann/Banks situation in that anybody paying attention to the game can see who has more potential. The answer we get is he's the "safe" choice. I can't complain about this kind of thing happening to much in the past with Fran. He's nothing like Ferentz, that's for sure. I use to be a die hard Hawk football fan but when this slow, white, hard working practice all american thing led to us getting blown out in the majority of our big games against good teams I gave up on Ferentz. For one thing what big time recruits would want to come here if you can't start till you read the flash cards faster than the next guy. I don't want some dumbass or somebody that's hurting the team's ability to succeed just because he has potential. I'd give my left nut for a B1G title and or an Elite 8 appearance. Maishe Dailey gives us a better chance than Brady Ellingson of reaching those goals. I'm a firm believer that you are only as good as your weakest link and next to Dom Uhl ours is Brady Ellingson. For all you fools with your Mrs. Dailey and "Ok Maishe" comments you guys should have a contest at the Ellingson reunion for some new Dailey insults. Maybe make a new calendar with a new insult for every day of the year and call it the Dailey Daily.

you should tell Fran that you know for a fact that Dailey is far superior to BE, and get ready to be thrown out on your ass. oh by the way Mr. Dailey if your son does transfer out he won't be missed.

So exactly what syndrome and or disorder do you have. I'm sure the doctors have probably had lectures, seminars and even conventions about you. P.S. I stuck up for you and how do you return the favor. I'm simply disappointed. :(

To tell you the truth I would like to pick Fran's brain, he's my favorite Iowa coach. I don't think Dailey is far superior right now. I think he is a better wing right now than Brady and should get more minutes than him when Connor gets back. Potential is where I think Dailey is far superior. Does Fran still accept collect calls ?

Isn't mono caused by a virus and at least somewhat contagious? Should Connor really be hanging around the team?
For Iowa to have 2 players within 18 months. I've never even heard of anyone getting Mono till Kriener got it last year. My first thought was, Is he overtraining ? That may not even be a factor in how you get I don't know.

Back in the day, mono was called the kissing disease. Hopefully their not spreading it like that. Not sure exactly how you get it, to be honest, but I don't think its contagious just by being close to someone.

I don’t know either, except it has been called “the kissing disease”. I never caught it. Maybe it’s the Al Bundy in me, but I thought I did a good share of kissing, too.

BE is not a wing, that's my problem to many trashing BE for no reason other just moving on from one player to the next McCabe who gave everything he had for the team and he was ripped on here constantly, then people switched their attacks to JO now they have switched to attacking Uhl but without him playing they focus on BE,
Fran recruited these players for a reason and it DAMN well wasn't some of you to attack them.

I wish there was a rule against unwarranted bashing of players and enforce it by banning some of these that take free rein in what they are doing to these non professional STUDENT ATHLETES for the U of Iowa.
again these PLAYERS ARE NOT PROFESSIONAL and are not 1 n done players.

Mono is viral, and can be shared through saliva. Often if an outbreak hits a sports team it is due to sharing water bottles...

Dailey is not a point guard, at all. He is not now, or should he ever be JBo's back up. He is a wing player.
I don't even think Dailey is truly a guard. At 6'7" he plays more like a SF. He is a good jumper but not that great off the dribble. Love the kid and his potential but Moss is quite a ways ahead of Maishe.

Question for those who have watched the games and have paid attention to Dailey on both ends--Is he missing assignments? Nothing drives a coach more crazy, except being lazy or having off-court issues, than making obvious mental errors. A coach wants to know that you understand what they are trying to do, and can put up with a player's physical limitations, because he knows them when calling his plays... Ellingson has proven that he doesn't make mental errors and he makes shots. Not so sure what Fran has seen when Dailey has been on the court.

Purely speculation.
