Connor, the nation’s leader in assist-to-turnover ratio, did it all in 39 minutes of action

You're glad your son is on the team? Bold.

Lol. Seriously, though, Connor is an underappreciated cog. Thankfully, Iowa doesn't need him to score. What he contributes is invaluable.
yeah; i am biased! plus, it saves me money! Free college, baby!

what i find kinda funny is that defenders sometimes back off when he's on the 3 line; Connor (I am assuming) says "F U" and then drills the shot.

Well, not...err, make that yesterday. But the 3 pointers he put up looked good from the release. His form is fine and I think he can improve his shot for next season.

I don't know, it seems like there's a new Connor appreciation thread every week. For a guy that rarely scores I'd say hes been getting plenty of love. Glad he's found a better role with this years team and people are recognizing his contributions

Des Flood might disagree with you with that elbow sticking out and his rotation but hopefully weezie can get it together down stretch and cj comes back so we won't need scoring from CM. I think just a little more arc would help if mechanics don't change.

Because Conner epitomizes everything true Hawkeye fans appreciate. A hard working, somewhat perceived unathletic, overachiever, who does the little things on the court that makes his team better. Come to think of it that is the true definition of a Hawkeye IMO.

Yeah. We know. That's why he repeatedly gets appreciation threads like this one, that's what I was saying

He has definitely replaced Nick Baer as being the main Glue guy on the team imo(different games I know)

If he develops a reliable 3 point shot that would be huge for this team. I like that he’s not as shy about shooting the 3 this year. Shooting around 30% isn’t great, but it’s the equivalent of shooting 45% from inside the arc, which isn’t terrible.

He's the most celebrated glue/role player in history of Iowa B-ball.

I know what you guys are saying and it is kind of funny but earlier in this same season - and most of last year - he also was the most unfairly criticized back-up PG (last year) and starter (this year) in the history of Iowa B-Ball. I think a lot if people are over-compensating for they talked about him the previous year and a half.

Nailed it. I was gonna suggest overcompensating for last yr but I didn't want it to come off as negative

Interesting that people perceive Connor as unathletic. I guess that comes from the basketball side where he just kind of does the things a coach's son does without wowing anybody. Lest we forget Connor is a very skilled baseball player and has excelled in that sport since the early days at Siena. It accounts for why IMO he passes so well- he has a really good arm. IMO what Iowa Athletics gets out of him in basketball seems a bonus.

For perspective, no other player from Iowa is in the top 250 in this category. Also, Zavier Simpson is 29th in the nation with 2.48 Ast/TO ratio.

Both players distribute the ball very well to all the others.

He should quit baseball and work on that 3 ball. He’s already improved it from last year, by next year he’ll be above 33% imo.

He can make free throws. He’s already improved the 3 from pathetic last year to passable this year. Quitting baseball and focusing 100% on basketball would he good for him

There’s not too many if any that posted anything coming into this season about the prospect of Connor playing lots of minutes at the 4 in a 4 guard lineup and some at the 3 in addition to some 2 and PG. This is for obvious reasons due to injuries which no one could anticipate. Much discussion involved his role as a full-time starting PG and if he could shoot well enough to keep teams honest. Few questioned his ability to handle the ball, make great passes, make great decisions or questioned his toughness.

His ability to play and defend multiple positions along with rebound on top of everything else has won a lot of hearts and minds. He has upped his 3 pt shooting from 21% to 31%. That’s been big and he’s also had to take some tough threes with the shot clock winding down. He’s made some big threes too. It’s reasonable to think with continued work he might end up being a respectable 35%+ 3 pt shooter.

He’s done great job on a team that’s far exceeded my expectations. Very, very fun season no matter how it turns out from here.

Simpson (no, not that one) is leading the nation in assists per game at 8.2 and a total of 196 assists through 24 games. but he turns it over more than Connor. Simpson has committed 79 TO's to Connor's 23. Connor currently sits at #163 nationally in assists, and sports 98 assists and a 3.8 average through 26 games.

Connor takes care of the ball.

His post entries are a thing of beauty and puts Garza in a situation to succeed. They both help each other out. It's not just a one way deal.

Exactly and he made a great post feed to pemsl last game. Dont know how he curled it in there but pemsl got an easy layup and they should have awarded the 2 points to conner. I havent seen this many bounce passes since tom davis

He's doing several things well, but that stat is helped by feeding a guy who is making 60? % of his shots.

And averaging 26.7 ppg in Big Ten play...love Connor but having a player of Garza ability is going to elevate everyone's stats that's feeding him...

Troy Skinner says hi...but even he gets your point.

Re: baseball - I think he bulked up a bit last year which affected his shooting. He has improved quite a bit this year and I think we could see continued improvement.

Spot on observation here. Connnor wants to play for his dad and make a contribution but will ultimately do things to further his baseball career first where he has the most potential to play at the next level. He may play basketball four years or he may not who knows? Fans need to just appreciate what he gives us on the court without taking things too seriously and thinking he needs to re-focus his energy.

This is not the point. Garza's FG% has absolutely no impact on half of the ratio (turnovers). The assist/turnover ratio highlights a players ability to maximize their efficiency on the court.

He doesnt turn the ball over. 9/10 coaches would prefer a guy like Connor who only has 4 assists per game but has no turnovers compared to a guy with 7-8 assists per game but has 3-4 turnovers. And then just add in all of the little things he does.

But again, my point is that Garza's FG % is not relevent in this topic. If anything, one could argue that Connor's assist numbers are actually low considering the amount of scoring by Iowa, led by Garza who shoots 60%. But then you gotta realize.given that Connor has such a good assist/turnover ratio and only averages 4 asst/g, the conclusion is that Iowa distributes the ball as a team. It's not going from Connor to one player every set. There is a lot more ball movement.

JFC leave him alone. All you guys did was pick on him all last year and got mad that he left to be a starter/6th man at Kansas. Get over the obsession

FU. Not picking on him and who the hell is “you guys”? I understand his roll and skill set and was disappointed but not “mad” he transferred. But he’s the perfect example of a guard who’s assist #’s are not inflated because all he needs to do “dump” the ball inside to the leading fg% big man in the country. Do you not find it amazing how few assists he has as a guard surrounded by NBA talent? Or is that picking on him to point that out.
