I had no idea he was in Iowa City throwing to his old Iowa teammates at Monday's Pro Day

his arm is nfl caliber for sure maybe the best i've seen at iowa. but after that too many gaps
He'll be coaching somewhere in the next few years..By every single account, and every story I've ever heard, he's a fantastic person. Very cool that he came back to throw for guys. Just didn't work like everyone wanted when he was the guy.
Nor any weapons or an OC. Never stood a chance.Never had a decent OL.
Like I've said before, he was better than the fans who booed when he played.
Our OL sucked.
Our WR's sucked.
Our OC sucked.
It was not all on Petras.
By a long shot.
Or position coachNever had a decent OL.
Not many QBs do these days apparently..............especially if you talk to former pro OL and QBs.Never had a decent OL.
And that was just post Doyle / Brian deal with the lawsuit earlier in the summer.I know we all forget the covid year, but the 2020 season did happen.
Petras started as a redshirt sophomore. We had a solid line. He was throwing to ISM and Brandon Smith in their final years, and Sam LaPorta.
He had his best stats as a Hawkeye, putting up a 9 TD/5 INT season while facing only Big Ten teams. The offense was 3rd in the conference in scoring, and Iowa went 6-2.
Then in 2021, the WR and OL disappeared.
He had so many weapons. A crazy amount of talent at running back and tight end and receiver. He just had Brian Ferentz calling plays.Nor any weapons or an OC. Never stood a chance.
Yea. It’s like with our receivers under Brian. We literally had an All American in Charlie Jones that Brian couldn’t get the ball to. Even more incredible we had an NFL starting running back this past season that was a receiver at Iowa. Never could figure out how to get him the ball either.it is kind of needless to say this, but if he makes it in the NFL (and, frankly, I am pulling for him as a former Hawk), then he is going to make our offense/Brian/etc. look like idiots. I am not sure it is possible to make us look worse than we were, but maybe it is.
From the horse's mouth, the latter ASKED to come in as a WR. Purdue converted him BACK to RB for his final season.Yea. It’s like with our receivers under Brian. Another case of our offensive coaches being lost on how to best utilize talent at the time. From the horse's mouth, the latter ASKED to come in as a WR. Purdue converted him BACK to RB for his final season.
Again, the fans weren't booing SP. They were booing the coaches that were putting him out there.Like I've said before, he was better than the fans who booed when he played.
I think my disdain for Brian Ferentz and the play calling carried over to Petras fair or not.He was not great but I agree, not all his fault.
Yea. For the life of me it’s hard to justify what Brian Ferentz did to this offense in 2021 to 2023. We had a line that couldn’t block and a quarterback that couldn’t move in 2022, yet we didn’t roll out the pocket, design any packages for more mobile backup quarterbacks. We just kept doing the same thing. Tim Lester would have figured out a way to try and be creative. Brian just called stretch zone right or left.Again, the fans weren't booing SP. They were booing the coaches that were putting him out there.
He caught a lot of shit from everywhere. Spencer Petrash ring a bell?Again, the fans weren't booing SP. They were booing the coaches that were putting him out there.
No, he ASKED to play WR. was told by most schools it was his best chance ti make the NFL.Another case of our offensive coaches being lost on how to best utilize talent at the time.
And Padilla was not the answer either.Again, the fans weren't booing SP. They were booing the coaches that were putting him out there.
Agree with this and then we faced these defenses. 2021 Scoring Defenses Wisc #4, Minn #6, PSU #6 Tie, Mich #8, ISU #20, Kentucky #26. Kentucky allowed 21.7 PPG while the top 4 defenses we faced all allowed less than 18 PPG. We faced 4 top ten defenses and 6 top 26 defenses.I know we all forget the covid year, but the 2020 season did happen.

Here’s how the Press Conference after beating Kentucky in the 2022 Music City Bowl after losing to Kentucky in the Citrus Bowl the year earlier.Agree with this and then we faced these defenses. 2021 Scoring Defenses Wisc #4, Minn #6, PSU #6 Tie, Mich #8, ISU #20, Kentucky #26. My response was about 2021 where we lost our best receivers and O lineman and faced 4 top 10 defenses and 6 top 26 defenses. By the way in 2022 we faced these scoring defenses #1 Illinois, #4 Minn, #7 Mich, #13 Kentucky, #17 Wisc, #18 ISU, and #24 OSU who allowed 21 points per game. Iowa was #2 behind the #1 Illinois defense who allowed 12.8 PPG. Over half the teams we faced had a top 25 defense. This sure does impact an offense. Here’s how the Press Conference after beating Kentucky in the 2022 Music City Bowl after losing to Kentucky in the Citrus Bowl the year earlier.
Reporter, “Brian. Can you talk a little bit about the offensive improvement from last year’s game against Kentucky to this year?”
Brian, “Sure. We scored more points, that’s all that matters.”
Reporter, “But the defense scored two pick-sixes and the offense only had a touchdown.”
Brian, “All those points will count towards my 25 points a game mandate. I said what I said. Next question.”
Do you not realize those teams basically played 11 regular season games but get credit for 12 because they played Iowa’s offense those two years? My response was about 2021 where we lost our best receivers and O lineman and faced 4 top 10 defenses and 6 top 26 defenses. Do you realize how dumb your post is. Against Illinois' #1 defense Iowa scored 6 points while Virginia scores 3, Chattanooga 0, Wyoming 6, and Northwestern 3. Against Minnesota's #4 defense Iowa scored 13 in a win while 6 teams scored less than Iowa including Colorado 7, MSU 7, Rutgers 0, and Northwestern 3.Do you not realize those teams basically played 11 regular season games but get credit for 12 because they played Iowa’s offense those two years?
Every single team you mentioned above was not an even an above average football team. I looked it up. Minnesota didn’t have a great defense. They just didn’t play anybody in 2022. Are you ready for the schedule:Do you realize how dumb your post is. Against Illinois' #1 defense Iowa scored 6 points while Virginia scores 3, Chattanooga 0, Wyoming 6, and Northwestern 3. He had O'Keefe his first four years on the roster and BF in 2022.He had the best guy KF could find as QB coach.
So you are now taking back the statement that "Do you not realize those teams basically played 11 regular season games but get credit for 12 because they played Iowa’s offense those two years?" Now it is about strength of schedule? Minnesota played 4 power 4 schools that got fewer points than Iowa so it is obvious that Iowa had less impact on Minnesota's #4 defensive than the 6 teams that had fewer points than Iowa.Every single team you mentioned above was not an even an above average football team. I looked it up. Minnesota didn’t have a great defense. They just didn’t play anybody in 2022. Are you ready for the schedule:
New Mexico State
Western Illinois
Colorado
Michigan State
Purdue
Illinois
Penn State (Only good team dropped 45 points on the Gophers)
Rutgers
Nebraska
Northwestern
Iowa
Wisconsin
They just had an incredibly soft schedule.
