Cooper Koch

After reading the deep dive on BMc’s defense I can see why Cooper is a great fit for what Iowa’s new defense will be looking for in a Pf/ Sf and what he could bring to the court

Great news. This is also how we want to build the program--have a lot of toughness and high character with a Medium sized payroll and yet not be a bottom feeder.

I suspect you are correct. Cooper at 6'8 is also someone that gives you flexibility on defense. He's big enough to be able to play some PF when you go small or you could go big and put him at the SF position. I think Pryce will be another big signee for his shooting and he can be a cheaper version of Dix.

We still need to find some true bigs for the center position.

I'll have to get around to rejoining the Swarm. I don't like donating to million dollar college players, but Iowa is in crisis mode right now
with a total rebuild. Need to make a big splash next year to regain program momentum.

Dix will hopefully go to Kansas over Illinois. I rooted for the young man, can't root for an Illini though.

Great to see he's staying. Random thought. Why do all these kids add "with that being said" in their announcements.

what did he say?
This...

From TOS late last year: "yeah, I think since it caused hospitalization, it was really kept under wraps. There was a podcast that Mulvey did a month or so back right after it happened and Mulvey said he was in the hospital for the "same thing that happened to me" the year before. Lots of speculation that it was shoulder or rhabdo related and a close source I know told me privately that he had heard that he was considering a medical redshirt."

Full text of BMac’s comment:

“We are excited to have Cooper return to our program next season. I have enjoyed getting to know Cooper over the past week and I feel like he’s going to be a key piece for our team moving forward with his ability to shoot the basketball.

“I also want to thank our fans for assisting us in getting Cooper to return. We need to continue to push the envelope with Josh (Dix) and Pryce (Sandfort) to let them each know how important they are to Hawkeye Nation.”

Interesting no mention of Dembele or Tadjo.

Agree. This is honestly a really positive thing. I don't know what Cooper's ceiling is, but I'm excited that he is buying in and wants to stick around her.

Josh's next stop is KAN$A$. I hope Hawk fans don't criticize him if he goes elsewhere, because he did a ton for this program and has earned the right to move to a perennial blue blood, IMO.

Get Dix to return and Ben will be cooking with dynamite year one!

I'm expecting Iowa to be on that list of teams in the NCAA tournament sweet 16 with a new coach and 4 new starters (cause Dix is back).

That's my expectation and I bet it's Bens expectation.

I won't be disappointed if they fall short, but that's the damn goal! Will be satisfied with a better record than this year and competent in all phases of the game

Welcome back Cooper! Never though he or Pryce would leave. I hope that influences Josh's decision, and BMc gets all 3 of the guys he said he wanted back in his presser.

Does anyone know definitively that Thelwell could not get another year. I have never understood how so many players got a 6th year.

I expect Dix & Stirtz to both test the NBA & workouts like Payton did. But also hope they both return to Iowa.

In both BMC's presser, and this release, he mentions Josh, Pryce and Cooper, but not Dembele or Tadjo.

Seems like a pretty clear signal who could return to the Iowa program and who shouldn't.
