Cory Clark to miss SDSU

Yup. I was one of them pushing this. He didn't quite look like himself but seeing him out there was great. Gives me some hope.

So was I. It's either you share the stuff you hear or shut up totally. So if guys like Exo want to knock Gobblin, who I know for a fact gets some good stuff, than so be it. However, I am betting Gobblin is dancing for joy that he was wrong because Cory is his dude.

Listen man, I wasn't knocking anyone, and I'm definitely glad people post their predictions, thats what HR is for. Unfortunately, in this day and age, if you go 0 for 2, you're getting called.

I get good info and know that Gobblin gets good info. Sometimes bad info is leaked out. There is no reason to let opponents know what is going on.There is also no reason to call any one out like that. Doing that is one of the reasons people don't share much on here. Another is due to the handful of negative posters that personally call out guys on the team or show up any time something bad happens.

Gobblin , thanks for the information that you usually get, for one I appdreciate it and I also know that is no good to keep asking and who told you I just take what you say and go with that. I don't blame people who find out stuff and don't say anything because seems like always a few that need or want to know the whole deal...It always comes out in time..

I just found it really odd that some were claiming it to be more serious AFTER the fact of Brands stating before the ISU dual he could have gone if really needed or if it was a big10 dual. Low and behold our next big10 dual he is on the mat! Amazing!

I suppose Brands could have been bluffing but didn't make any sense for him to publically say he could have gone and then hold him out until Big10s. If he wanted to bluff or dodge the question he woulda did his patented smirk and said "we will see him in the near future" and not go on record as saying he could have gone if really needed.

Most ppl tend to over-react about everything so I'm not surprised and I think some of you were probably trying to build in an excuse for Cory if he doesn't finish the way we all want him to this year.

Because history says he also always forthcoming in these situations.

Tom's a pretty straight shooter. I don't ever expect him to reveal what an exact injury is but I don't think he's ever mislead anyone on a timetable of a wrestler returning. If he has as you claim please provide the case(s). I must be missing it.

It's not so much as 'misleading' as it was coachspeaking the hell out of us. More recently, and especially this season he has been fairly candid, still coachspeak but giving more details than he has in the past.

Could it be a thing where it isn't going to get better or worse until after surgery and surgery now would surely end his season? Or did they just wait for the inflammation to go down and trot him out there and see what he had?

Either way, this was a great first match back and am hoping like crazy he can keep progressing. Cory is one of my all time favorites and there's no other Hawk in recent memeory I'd rather see go out with a title.

The "building in an excuse" bullshit is laughable at best.

Who's to say it's still not a serious injury? Clark is a tough guy and he wants to be out there. Goblins info on this is 100% spot on. Clark is just wrestling through it like many before him have done.

Weird. Slowdeath had 2 posts discussing who has the best sources and they've both disappeared from this thread. He even implied slight of hand and Jedi mind tricks. He's the most powerful poster on HR to be able to pull this off, like David Blaine. Very sly, crafty even. He must have friends in high places.

EDIT: I'm surprised my post hasn't disappeared...weird.

Have to say I'm surprised he came back against Micic and that he won -- not because I don't have faith in him, but because he's not 100%, and he surely had some rust to knock off.

Also have to say I'm thrilled that 1) he came back and 2) he beat a darn tough opponent in his first match back on the mat.

Predicting time frames on injuries ... everybody responds a bit differently. I am pleasently surprised and am hoping he gets in great form for March! Been high on him ever since his true freshman year when took out the IL track star.

Very gutsy performance. Give Clark a lot of credit wrestling thru this injury against a game opponent. Would have been easy to sit this one out and make his comeback vs MSU.

Unlike the Downey kid who will only step on the mat if the opponent has a below 500 record

Kudos to Clark

Relax bud. Wasn't calling you out. Just the General tone of how everyone was claiming his injury to be so serious and over-reacting. Appreciate your insight and love reading it but I had to take Brands' words more serious in this case (with the timetable of him returning). I have no idea what his injury is or isn't and it's none of my business nor do I feel the need to know.

We all know Cory has to be a finalist for us to have a shot this year. So yes I do believe many ppl wanted to make this out to be huge so there is an excuse for him if he doesn't meet their goals. That wasn't directed at you one bit.

I'm just happy as hell hes back on the mat sooner than expected (from the HR timetable). And right on schedule according to Brands.

If coachspeak bothers you then better tune out to every coach in every sport. They all do it. It's not a unique thing for brands. Again NO coach is gonna say his wrestler could have gone in a present meet with the intentions of holding them out for 2 more months. Then he just has to answer to that every single meet/media day. Come on.

Didn't say it bothered me, it is what it is. Just saying, that the manner in which Tom approaches interviews/'releasing information' seems to have changed, and evidently I'm not the only one who thinks so.

And kudos to Brands. This is what separates Iowa from the seed protectors Tom Ryan and KJs of the sport.

Cory may have a bit of rust, but he showed us that determination and toughness that we love to watch him demonstrate on the mat. Not the most offensively gifted guy on the team, but possibly the toughest. IMHO.

P.S. I may have strained a muscle or two wrestling that match with him as I sat on the couch twisting, turning and straining. Hope he can get more scoring going in future matches so I don't hurt myself.

You were one of those saying the competition caught up to McD his senior year. Cory had just started light drilling when we wrestled ISU. Saying he could have gone was the same as saying Stoll could have gone at the Iowa City Duals.

What I witnessed last night in Corys match is something I'll keep to myself but I'm sure a few on here know what I'm talking about. Good stuff.

I saw Cory win with a great effort last night.

The only thing I saw that bothered me was at the end of the match when he seemed unable to lift his opponents leg above his shoulder to sweep and went to the mat in neutral instead.

So, you weren't calling out Gobblin, just "everyone who was claiming his (Clark's) injury to be so serious."

Newsflash! It was serious. Unofficial comments suggest it was a shoulder separation and he missed more than a month of wrestling. Hopefully, Cory has fully recovered, but we don't even know that for sure.

You seem to be implying, since Cory came back before feb or March, it was not serious.

And the suggestion that posters were preplanning excuses.....absurd.

I'm sure some more unofficial comments can reveal if he's fully recovered or not. And if Brands contradicts that we will call his bluff.
