Do everything. Walls, lay new tile, replace the tub, toilet... new vanity. But it's a small bathroom, like 8x4 or whatever

I'm not sure about Iowa, but based on the Zonda data for my zip code, the low-end cost for a bathroom remodel is 260k.

Good luck with your project

Materials as in tub/surround, plumbing, fixtures, toilet, vanity, flooring, walls? Less than $1000? Good luck.
I haven't priced out a project like this forever. It's small ass bathroom. Vanity? 200 at Menards. Flooring? Again... a little patch of 4x5 at most. The tub insert... that's a better question. Only one patch of drywall probably. Feels like a bunch of 200ish dollar items. (around 1000)

Well a cheap tub and surround will be 700. If your current system is old, you'll need new plumbing and a plumber. You doing the work yourself?

You'll hate the prices you're quoted with your expectations. Labor for 3-4 days will be 3-4k.
Gross. So the tub is kind of dingy. But I suppose I could clean it up. Has a few stains. No cracks. Tub surround has a crack in it. Otherwise is ok. Figure it has to go.

The toilet is OK. I hate the tile flooring and the walls. Worried subfloor may be a bit fooked in areas though.

We paid about $16k three years ago in. Northern NJ. Tiled floor and walls, moved wall adding a couple of feet, floating sink/vanity and custom glass doors.

do it yourself, will probably save 5k. we just did small bathroom, gutted everything. plumber installed shower, new toilet, new vanity. I did the rest- new vent, flooring, drywall/ceiling, outlets.

right around $1800 for everything including plumber

no whey. Materials shouldn't be more than a grand. (not that I'm going for top of the line shite)
Anytime you do a bathroom, it'll start at $5000 and work up by what you pick out to go in. It's spendy for bathrooms larger than a half-bath. If it's a half-bath, then you can get away with about $2500 picking out really nice stuff.
