In the planning stages of a group couples trip for spring break. The strong lean is currently Costa Rica. Any resort recommendations or other things people would do again/avoid?

I went in 2009 with some friends to this area in southwest Costa Rica. We rented a house with a great view of the rainforest. A rooster crowed every morning at 5 A.M. and that was kind of brutal.
We did some ATV and horse rides. The ATV was cool. I was abusing marijuana at the time. The weed there was poor quality. The food was good and it was pretty safe from crime. We did some ziplining.
The beach was OK and the water was green and not crystal clear.
Overall, I found Costa Rica to be a bit overrated. It was so hyped by everyone I talked to. I thought the Bahamas had better beaches and water.
If you go, have a blast.
