Could we start a PAC to buy commercial time to block political ads?

Just show Puppies or Kittens for 30 second slots. I will contribute to that. I suspect many others would as well.

Thank God its over in Iowa....I hate it

The problem is that the candidates and candidate commuters (not the SuperPACs) have some very favorable laws. Pretty easy to rig the game when you're the ref.

Candidates not only get the priority for as time above any other advertising, but they are also entitled to the lowest price offered at all by the local affiliate. They can run prime time ads at a 3 AM price.

But if we formed a PAC or Super PAC dedicated to the cause of improved political speech...couldn't we buy the same time?

I wasn't aware of that.

It actually makes sense. Otherwise it would be pretty easy for TV stations to discriminate for and against candidates by manipulating the ad price.

Then you would just have people complaining about puppies and kittens showing up all the time and someone would start a PAC to counter act yours.

I thought this was the direction Cobert/Stewart were headed when they had their Rally to Restore Sanity or when Cobert tried to get on the ballot. I think they could've taken that a lot further

In a deep and ominous voice:

"WWJD calls himself a liberal, but 22 minutes ago he said he wants to, '...Provoke...War...' Tell WWJD that real liberals don't go to war. We stand on the sideline. Vote Huey Grey. 'He won't get involved.'"

It could be white noise and would still be preferable to the political ads.

They wonder why people hate politics and politicians so much....

With cord cutting, we may accomplish this without the need to spend millions buying puppy ads.
