Watching some of Kenyon's old highlights got me reminiscing about the days of the gold court. So Hawkeye fans, which one do you like better. The gold court of yesteryear ala Tom Davis or the black court that came in with Alford?

I voted for gold. But I'm nostalgic.

Same here and nostalgia is certainly a part of it. Iowa hoops just really hasn't been quite the same since the court was painted black. Not that the color of the paint has anything to do with the success of the team. But still.. I associate the gold with a better product.

The black looks fine IMO, but I really do/did like the brightness of the gold floor. I think it really popped on TV and was a classic look. I miss it.

I'm guessing that most of the gold votes would have been votes for black if, infact, Davis was recognized for the black trim and Alford was credited with the Gold trim. It can't just be nostalgia because the black edges and the full ''IOWA HAWKEYES'' on each end set off the court so much better. That said, here's a shout out to Acie Earl who I believe is number 55 in the gold picture.

Probably in most cases, but I honestly prefer it. But I think the black looks good too. And yep, Earl was #55.

I voted gold and it's 100% nostalgia for me. If the old court with those great teams had been black then changed to gold, I'm sure I'd vote black. Has nothing to do with Alford, but as someone else said, the on-court product was just better.

As the photos clearly illustrate, anyone with a sense of design knows it always should have been black. There is no comparison. The yellow is ugly and offers no contrast. The black is classic. The court should NEVER go back to yellow.

I suspect the others in the picture were Kevin Smith Jay Webb (or Rodell Davis) and Val Barnes. Chris Street may be the white player in the lane.

I think the black looks better, but liked having the unique yellow court. If I made the call, I would go back to yellow.

Think we should use as much black as often as we can in everything associated with Iowa sports. The black in the Steelers unis Monday should ring the court with gold lines. Indeed, almost everything in CHA should be dark black.

In addition to playing Back in Black as loud as 16" battleship guns when we take the court/field-in every sport-we should be blasting the opening riff and chant of "Thunder" from Thunderstruck while awaiting tip/kick/pitch or whatever starts the game and every score, big hit, three pointer, etc... should get a similarly loud line of "Thunderstruck".

Turnovers, steals etc... all get a quick "Dirty Deeds, Done Dirt Cheap"

We need far more heavy metal and far less requiem mass in our atmospherics. And it all begins with lots of BLACK.

Honestly, if not shown the photos, what was what under Davis or Alford I would have no clue.

That count is pretty sweet... But
Can we do "alternate courts" like that every so often.... Kind of like alternate uniforms!! ;)

I don't like the idea of permanently replacing the best logo in athletics at center court. At least not permanently.

I'm surprised Oregon doesn't do "alternate courts" for EVERY game. Gotta spend that Nike money.

The Halloween’ was good, but the ‘Empirical March’ was also good.

Going real old school (back to the late 70s/early 80s for football was the ‘Dragnet’ theme as the players were coming out of the old northeast tunnel and the band sat in the north end zone.
