Since the Coronavirus seems to be infecting a number of other threads, perhps it might be a good idea and try and isolate it to it's own thread.

That way those who wish to avoid reading about it can read the other threads and not worry about getting infected like the rest of us............:)

Let's try and confine COVID-19 discussions to this thread if at all possible.

WE CAN DO THIS................

I don't know... generally we have had problems confining it to this point. :(

Yes, but we did not have a central focus point before and it just ended up in several different threads unexpectedly.

This conversation is going to continue somewhere. Maybe we can work together for a change instead of pulling apart.

First Cesspool patient is a Mod.............On Oxygen as seen here.

I was jokingly alluding to society in general with the virus non-containment, but wholeheartedly agree keeping it contained on this board. Spend too much time during the day hearing and dealing with it. Nice to have this board as a distraction.

The WHO stated that it took 3 months to reach 100,000 cases. But only 12 days to get the next 100,000 cases.

Today the number is at 272,367 with 11,311 fatalities on March 20th at 8:51 PM

US numbers are 19,285 with 249 fatalities.

the fatality number is obviously pretty well correct and confirmed, the infected number certainly underestimated.

On Tuesday there were 5,700 cases here in the US.

By Thursday the number was 11,600.

Now Saturday morning early before any overnight updates the number is 19,624. almostr 20,000.

Pretty soon we will begin to see and understand the exponential growth of numbers if the social distancing and self quarantine doesn't slow the spread of the virus down.

Now starting to see reports from medical workers at different hospitals saying theu are not doing the testing because it is so endemic they are getting too many to treat. Don't bother testing, just start treatment.

https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2020-03-20/coronavirus-county-doctors-containment-testing

So the testing numbers are going to be bogus going forward and terribly understated. Not enough tests still and too many to treat. Why test.

What stuck out as the most impressive thing within in this article was the fact we were pumping out B-24’s every 63 mins. By far the greatest generation our country will ever have. No questions asked all hands on deck. The sacrifice this generation made sadly will never be matched again

Bloomberg article describing how Companies are starting to switch production from perfume to hand sanitizers, Women's clothing to protective medical clothing. etc.

with very limited resources for testing, as now exists, you have to test only those that meet ALL of the criteria for testing, not everyone who wants one or thinks they might like to know their status. test those with the best (bad choice of words I know) probability of having COVID based on their meeting the CDC present-time criteria. To 1) identify them for the appropriate treatment course depending on the severity of their infection, so as to not use up scarce resources for those not infected. Treatments range from ICU admission and aggressive hospital-based treatments to go home and self-treat your symptoms, and 2) be able to isolate them, as we then know they are truly infected, so we slow the spread.

And I agree, the number of people truly infected is so much higher than we have in any number currently reported.

Saturday afternoon and the word is now out that St. Louis city and county are going on "Stay at Home Order' as of Monday March 23 for 30 days...........30 DAYS..........

Order.....not suggestion.

Reading in the local paper of a Private Physician who has patients who traveled to "hot" zones and presented with COVID-19 like symptoms and she can not get them tested. A couple of them have already died, she is showing symptoms and still can't get herself tested.

Sad but no doubt true. In the state of IA we do not have an abundant # of tests available. If we did, we'd test like mad and ID everyone for treatment and/or isolation. Now you have to be bad enough to warrant the use of a test.

The last question the telehealth DR will ask is have you been exposed to anyone who has tested positive? If the answer is no then you won't get tested as of now regardless of symptoms.

And then another 4 days to get to 300,000 cases.

Currently 304,544 with 11,974 fataliites.

In 1 day the US jumps 6,208 cases to 25,493.

really we want that number to grow. It means they are testing. There are probably 100-300k in the us right now. Aggressive testing is going to be how we live with this virus in a halfway normal lifestyle anytime soon without a vaccine.

Some areas have given up testing the general public. They are saying the battle has been lost to test and contain the virus.

Only testing health care workers and the severly ill now.

Shifting strategy now to preserve masks and other supplies for the health care workers.

That's the current strategy here in Massachusetts I believe. There are simply not enough tests and test processing yet to cover everyone who wants it, so health care workers and those most at risk come first. The good news is that testing is ramping up quickly. The bad news is that there may be many carriers showing no symptoms yet, or ever. We'll know more in a week. People are being really good about staying home, however.

Here is a report about a short but thorough quarantine, followed by the quarantine of those most at risk:

I’m currently in the hole on mat 3.

Actually, still awaiting my result after testing on Friday. Was hoping for 48-hour turnaround but no such luck.
