Covid and Iowa high school football.

The ignorance of saying this thing will not effect me has hit close to home for a lot of people I know. Now all of a sudden following a mandate of protection makes sense to them. IT IS TEMPORARY for goodness sake. They have literally said if everyone wears a mask for 4-6 weeks this thing will be very much under control. But..... it is not under control because Freedom
Since when is ANYTHING the government does a temporary thing? When has a law or rule or anything been taken off the books? I am pretty much a full blown libertarian. The government should protect the country (military), protect the citizens (police), and provide an infrastructure (roads). Things just keep getting added and added over the years and the government is bloated beyond repair at this point. Social security (as in socialism), free health insurance, blah blah blah.

My hospital in Iowa (you know, the new hotspot) isn’t even remotely close to being overwhelmed. Very low admission vs pos test rate.

Either this virus is weakening or it was much more broadly spread early on than we knew and the most vulnerable have passed. I favor the former.

This explains things very well and does not support the covid freak out.

I am very much of the libertarian mindset also, but I do not think a temporary mandate that the whole WORLD is doing is going to be permanent. Why would it be?

Thank you for that link. This echoes much of what I have been saying all along. Particularly the obesity issue.

There is much to be learned by paying attention to the fact the Ct value for this has been set so high as well.....

I don't know where you live, but the banning/suspension of "elective/non essential" medical procedures was ordered by the Iowa Governor. The medical profession didn't "refuse" anything.

If you're not from Iowa... it's a Kimmy thing to selectively pick winners and losers based on your donor base.

Illinois. And it wasn't an indictment of any governing authority but the medical profession. They all bought into the "all the ERs are going to be overwhelmed" panic.

The 272 COVID hospitalizations in Iowa is stressing the healthcare system? Or is the 20% ventilator use?

You do not have access to EPIC data. That is highly illegal dude. HIPPA? You cannot be this dense.

Yes, I do, fool. So does everybody else who has a brain. It's in a publicly realeased white paper. And HIPPA laws don't apply to anonymized data. only if individuals are identified.

Here is the abstract from their paper:

"EHR data show a recent abrupt drop – between 86% and 94% – in preventive cancer screenings performed across the United States, presumably due to access disruptions caused by COVID-19. This study compares the number of screenings for cervical, colon, and breast cancer completed each week in 2020 to the average number of screenings completed during equivalent weeks from 2017–2019. The data set includes 2.7 million patient records from 39 organizations that represent 190 hospitals spanning 23 states.

If the trend continues, the data suggest that many cancer cases could go undiagnosed or be diagnosed at a later stage with a poorer prognosis. Provider organizations that must postpone in-person screenings might wish to explore alternative options to get patients caught up, such as the use of at-home stool-based tests for colon cancer screening or expanding hours for mammography when imaging centers reopen."

Like I said previously, the stupid just never stops with you around.

When were these weeks done? If it was right at the onset of this thing they yeah, I assume most people, especially those at risk stayed home. Also right in your abstract, which is not an ideal way to analyze research but whatever, it says alternative based tests and longer hours until things reopen....... which most clinics have. If someone also has cancer or feels like they do. It is not hard right now to find a place that is open to screen for it. Every hospital, big and small around me is open in Iowa.

Specialized clinics were closed and deemed non essential. But that does not mean there was not another way for a patient to get screened for cancer.

Do you have any idea what the word "reopen" means, dunce?

No doubt explaining the 90% drop in screenings, right?

Seriously, quit while you're behind.

If you actually read the article you would be able to answer my questions. How many weeks? What is the time frame. Is this from specialized clinics or world renown hospitals? I can answer the question that world renown hospitals are currently open and screening. Also cancer studies NEVER stopped and quite a few opened up at researched based hospitals. So how in the world did they get new patients? What type of study is this? Or is it just an observation of predictive data? We all know how predictive data worked for Covid right? Calling someone dumb when all you do is read the abstract is kind of funny

The study was released in May and covers a roughly 2 month period between March and May. It also matches separate data released by Komoda Healthcare that analyzed medical billing records as opposed to the electronic medical records information nalayzed by Epic (an no, dunce, "metadata" isn't covered by HIPPA).

But the exact timing doesn't matter as it relates to deaths caused by the lockdowns because currently open and screening does not mean people haven't already died from missed screenings due to lockdowns banning "non-essential" medical treatment. When thousands of people miss screenings or treatments even for a couple of months, there is no doubt a segment of them will die as a result. Some already have, and more are sure too. I had a friend who was scheduled to begin radiation in March after it had been discovered that his previous prostate cancer surgery had failed to remove all the cancer. He was denied treatment until June. He's since successfully completed his treatment, and is still alive, but it's far from certain that the 3 month delay won't ultimately be his demise. And it's completely certain with thousands of others like him, that the delay has and will continue to claim some portion of them. And it's not just cancer screenings or treatments that were banned. The same applies to numberous other medical treatments.

It's OK that you're an imbecile who can't figure any of this out on your own, but at least you should have the tiny bit of self respect required to not continue parading around HR in your pointy white cap, repeatedly illustrating your cartoonish ignorance, not to mention your vile disregard for human life.

I can see you rarely will compromise your thoughts. I agreed on what you said, but also said that things are currently open. Your argument was based on the fact that things are not open and we live in a totalitarian government. All of those statements by you are false. And no regard for human life? How are you any different with your thought process on the mandates? You use a lot of circumstantial theories, but it is kind of ridiculous how narrow minded your thought process is. Hopefully none of this affects you. And my grandfather was able to have in home treatment and checkups with his bone cancer throughout the months of March - May. Your paper is just that, a paper that does not have complete data and is full of predictive circumstances.

No, my argument is based on the simple and indisputable fact that citizens make better decisions for themselves than knuckle-draggers make for citizens (perhaps save a couple of incompetent boot-lickers like you).

And no, "things" are not open. Perhaps the reason you are too dumb to figure out that force and coercion kills explains why you are dumb enough to think things are open.

Ok, where do you live? Where I live, rural IA around Omaha NE, things are open but with mask mandates. So if you are arguing about another place then I get it. But all we got is mandates. Lots of people and families at pumpkin patches this weekend. Bars, Restaurants, Race tracks, HS football and volleyball games. Schools, shopping, dr offices, gyms, golf courses, etc.

I love how you just try to troll and never answer questions. Good defense mechanism because you are good at it. If you base everything off 1 idea. You will never see the whole picture. And if you believe everything on the internet, I got a nice ocean front in South Dakota to sell you.

You make fun of predictive data and Covid policies based on it, then go right ahead and use predictive data for your lockdown argument. It is like you are completely one sided you have no idea to have a decent rebuttal. How can you say it is not possible for one way, but complete possible for the other? If you were like me you would question both forms of data. But please, continue using articles you barely read as has been evident by what was in the article or lack there of. Simply because you cannot comprehend it to answer the question besides copy and paste. When you did that last time. There was not even an answer to my question. Probably because you didn't know how to respond.

We? You are one of the only one getting pissed at me asking questions about your data they same way you question other things. Where are you from? That was a simple question that you dodged. Like much of our conversation you do not answer questions. Most of the time that is because people do not have an answer or want to answer. If you take time to read and think about an answer it might come to you.

Anybody who can read your cartoonish posts about not knowing hte difference between mandates and things you're asked to do. Not knowing many things remain closed. Not knowing the lockdowns are killing people. Thinking HIPPA precludes the collection and distribution of data on medical services being provided. The list goes on and on and on and on.

It doesn't matter where I am from. Maybe I'm from New YOrk where many things remain lcosed. Or from California where many things remain closed. Or from Michigan where many things remain closed. Or from Illinois where many things remain closed. Or from New Jersey where many things remain closed. Or from.............where many things remain closed. Again, the list goes on and on and on. BTW, maybe my moniker gives you some hint as to where I am from. Try to remember, Google is your friend. And when you're as dumb as you, I'm sure ou can use all the friends you can find.

No, that's not what I'm saying. I'm saying we're paying a steep price for a half assed effort from certain GOP officials.

Just like the Iowa Governor picking and choosing six counties to shut down bars. And by coincidence, all six are predominately progressive/left leaning counties. Imagine the planning that decision took?
Have you seen what has happened to the positivity rate since that time? Looks like its dropped by 6.2% in a 7 day rolling average. Seems to have worked pretty damn well w/o runing the livlihoods of everyone else in the state....doesnt really fit your narrative does it?

you are deliusional, and if you don't believe lives were lost due to the lockdowns, completely unrelated to the virus, there really is no point in any further discussions on the matter

This all comes back to the totalitarian government conspiracy you spew. Where I live, we go about our business with the mandate and are fine. Maybe people like you should stop overthinking this and move on. That predicted data you used for lockdown deaths was also used got mask mandates. Here is the thing. The mandate would be over if we followed the predictive data suggestion and things would be near normal in most places. So how is it there in Illinois?

You actually believe the statistics being released by he IDPH? They've lied multiple times about Covid. And when they get caught lying... it's a computer "glitch" to blame.

We're also talking about a Dept/Gov's office that wants to limit testing.

There he is. Or she. Chiming in with the standard hard core radical liberal rhetoric. You know Mitchy you are the the type that prolly hopes for daily positively increases to drive your lefty hate train because in your *uhm," MIND you are truly convinced that you are a voice of reason. You're not

Believe in what sense? Do I believe that 7.5% of tests this past week have been positive? Yes. Do I believe that the 300-800 cases reported daily are at all encompassing? Nope. Does it matter? Not as long as positivy rate is flat or declining and hospitalization rates (particularly ICU rates) are manageable (which they have been since the begining here in Iowa)

If you have a better source of data, please, share.

And why do you think I only mentioned positivity rate? Case rate is a next to useless metric w/o the context of a positivity rate.

There's no "conspiracy". The authoritarianism is publicly announced, and widely known. There are just thinking people who recognize totalitarianism when they see it, and boot-lickers who can't recognize it when they're hit over the head with it.

Where I live (and many other places around the nation) people who are banned from working are not "fine". People who were denied medical care are not "fine". Children who are banned from going to school are not "fine". The owners of countless of bars, restaurants, gyms, salons, and other busineses that have been forced to permanantly close due to the lockdowns are not "fine", nor are their former employees. The families of victims of increased suicide, drug overdose, domestic violence, and other social ills are not "fine".

FInally, nobody should consider themselves "fine" so long as they are in the midst of boot-lickers incapable of wrapping their hollow melons around the simple fact that totalitarianism kills.

My complaint, all along, has been the other family and friends that athletes come in contact with. It's that simple.

From a statistics standpoint, given the political pressure from the WH to the CDC and various other entities, I don't trust any Red State Governor and that States reporting. And comments from Joni Ernst about believing the virus numbers aren't correct, and are overstated, you can see where people are being fed propoganda.

This whole effing mess is not how you deal with a health event. And it started at the WH.

If that is what is consistently happening in your area then yes, that sucks and needs changed. But at the same time. If more people distanced and followed temporary rules it would not be that bad. Illinois has been a mess for a while with that regard. Here in western Iowa, Everything is pretty much up and running. No joke. Might consider a move if it does not improve? In my part of the state you can go mostly anywhere and get what is needed, get to work, still work but work from home, etc. We are doing ok where we are. Yes some of us are getting sick but managing it.

It's not "my area". It's large portions of the country (predominantly, but not solely those with Dem Governors).

Like I've said multiple times, GET OUT OF YOUR CAVE!

BTW, I'm never out in public when I see a single person without a mask. Like I also previously said:

1. It's not about masks

2. It is about totalitariansim.

It would have been easier to just say you are an imbecile chasing your tail.

Are these athletrs running into vulnerable family on the field? Are they otherwise confined to cages completely cutoff from society? If the answer is 'no' to those questions, then your logic completely falls apart.

As to your second point, if you are that skeptical and conspiracy driven, I really do pity you. That's not a healthy way to live your daily life, and you would probably benefit greatly from a technology cutoff.

I haven't seen too many kids wearing masks during games. A few do.

So you have close contact with an asymptomatic player on another team and the chance to spread the virus to your own family and friends. The coaches of my grandson's team are expecting kids to self report. They are also not temperature checking kids. So, no one knows.

My logic is fine. And yes... the vast majority of players/teams will be fine. But I continue to look at the smaller percentage of cases that are potentially the issue.

We aren't going to have a vaccine by basketball season and that's an indoor sport. I expect more issues come November/December.

The list of high school teams cancelling games is "growing substantially". Except when it's not. The COVID data released by the Iowa Health Department is not to be beleived. Except when it is.

You were born "done", and have been falling further behind the rest of humanity every day since. Seriously, have you ever wondered what you'd do with a brain if you had one?
