The sudden death of Wrestling for Life board member, Brian Stutzman, created a vacancy on our board. I am happy to announce that CowboyUp61 has been selected to fill the void. I am certain that you have all noticed his commitment to WFL. I look forward to his expanded role.

My first try at fundraising during offseason-went shopping today, and between my wife and I we found 12 pairs of shoes on clearance-average cost of $20 each for brand new shoes, that will be donated to middle school teams across the country.

For $25, you can sponsor a pair of shoes-that will include shipping to the distribution point. Donate here if so inclined!

This is the kind of thing that keeps Wrestling for Life going and growing.CowboyUp and his wife found new shoes at clearance prices. Instead of 4 or 5 middle school kids getting the shoes they need, 12 do. That's more than we normally send a qualified school. He started an effort on Facebook and asked people to sponsor a pair of shoes for $25 (cost of the shoes plus shipping to me and then to the school). Four pairs have been sponsored. Will The Cesspool sponsor the remaining eight? You can sponsor on our website http://wrestlingforlife.org/index.php/donate

I get it. This is sort of like Good Cop / Bad Cop. Jim does the soft sell, and Cowboy does the arm-twisting. ;)
Unfortunately, this works. I just sponsored a pair myself, and I'm probably the cheapest bastard on this board. I even tried to talk myself out of it. Maybe it was the pictures of all the wrestling shoes. Made things tangible. Some of us are just visual people. Cowboy, thank your wife for me too. Thanks for all your efforts, guys!

Thanks! But I prefer to think of it as an arm BAR. Twisting would be illegal ;)

IF I am not mistaken, 8 and 8H are most common in the targeted age group. I have sent some from Ebay used also, but sometimes wonder about those. I bet Jim can correct me.

8 is number 1, followed by 7, 9, 10. I'm fulfilling a couple of requests today that will wipe out our supply of 7s and 10s. We get shoes more cheaply than most can. The shoes CowboyUp and his wife just bought are a good example. We are constantly on the lookout for good buying opportunities and have also negotiated discounts with vendors in Iowa City and Cedar Rapids.

We also welcome the donation of "gently used" shoes. Charlotte Bailey of Female Elite Wrestling runs a shoe drive at their fall tournament and we pick up several their. Area clubs have also organized drives to help us.

I have only purchased a couple of used pairs on Ebay that I discarded because they were just too worn to pass along.

CowboyUp's latest shoes arrived this morning and were included in shipments to middle schools in Maine and North Carolina. We still have schools waiting so your sponsorship would be very welcome. Thanks.

Happened to have a bit of time between meetings, so I stopped at a local sporting goods store where I happen to know the owners a bit. Guess what happened? Yep-more sponsorship opportunities! Three pairs of 7 and a pair of 8's on the way tomorrow.

You have seen GG's posts-shoes going to places that are not wrestling strongholds by any means. Help him keep the momentum going!

Never wrestled in my life (let alone bought wrestling shoes), but I'll keep an eye out in sporting goods stores. In the meantime, made a donation so those who know what they are doing can help a couple more kids.
