Craigslist Scammers (LA)

Been searching endlessly for respectable ticket prices all over, even Craigslist around L.A. and Iowa City. Prices are ridiculous (obviously), for the most part, but I found one add that looked somewhat respectable.

Somebody was selling 4 tickets ("side-by-side") for $1600 total OBO. Section 24, Tunnel A, Row 3 Seats 25-28. I replied and said with all I've been spending on traveling that I could do no more than $250 a ticket. He said "I can do $1000". We'd been e-mailing back and forth and he even sent pictures of tickets, so at first I was giddy but when I asked where he was located or how to exchange he simply said he could FedEx them overnight and pay him through moneygram. I immediately said moneygram was too shady and requested paypal. No response, thereafter.

I've been seeing similar ads like the way he worded the ad with other seats in the very same area. Either somebody around L.A. was able to get a bunch of seats around Section 23/24 or there's some major scammers looking to make some easy cash.

Probably obvious to most experienced ticket buyers, but doesn't hurt to remind people you know who are desperately seeking tickets for prices a couple hundred below the typical stubhub $600 range.

If you're going to try buying on Craigslist, either do the transaction locally face to face. Or via PayPal so the transaction can be reversed.

I've sold tickets over craigslist before, and have also dealt strictly in cash face to face. I think buyer and seller are both most comfortable that way.

I prefer the 'seal club somebody and take their tickets' approach.........makes things more interesting.

Yeah newsflash guys. Sites like stubhub, etc are not a mystery anymore. So if the average ticket on stubhub is going for 800 bucks and you find some random post on craiglist for 200, it might be a little shady.

I ran into the same guy! We offered $400 each and he agreed. I asked for his name, phone number, how he came to get the tickets, and if he would take PayPal. Would not give name or number and insisted on Moneygram. Instantly told him to take a leap.

Stay Home. You can do a lot with $1200 or more.

Your avatar is very cool.

Im from Chicago and found Big Ten Champ tix on craigslist - met the guy face to face and gave him cash for good seats and you guessed it - they were fake - kind of always knew it was a 50/50 possibility - I'm not bitter - my own fault and lesson learned.

So my own advice - push for paypal and you will find out if they are legit. Never do cash.
If I dont get tix through the box office (season ticket holder), its stub hub for me. And next year
I am buying ahead for the Champ game in August, but that will probably jinx them.

Good luck to all and beware. Its a tough world out there.

We had bought tickets for a game at Michigan a few years ago on Craiglist. The guy told us to send a check and we did and he sent us the tickets. They were fake as well. Got to the gate and said ticket had already been scanned. So they didn't work. We were pissed.

So we thought oh well, we will just go back to our tailgate and drink. As we got back to our spot the guy next to us was a MICH fan and we told him what happened. He said hold on, and went and got 4 tickets for us. Said we didn't owe him anything. I have ever since loved Michigan fans, that was one of the classiest things I have ever seen. He was a lawyer who had extra's cause his kids didn't come that week. So we ended up sitting in the Michigan sections, but it was still fun. Iowa got waxed that year anyways. But it was a nice gesture, he could of told us to F off, but he didn't.

Come on peeps. Be smart here. Unless a reputable source it's simply not worth it. Craigslist would be the absolute last place I would check. I would t even buy a toaster from Craigslist....

I had a guy from Chi tell me yesterday he had 4 in section 108....I told him no thanks as there are only 28 sections in Rose Bowl. Wonder if it was the same guy. Said he lived near Soldier Field. Said his name was Ryan. I got his phone #, wonder if its the same guy?
