Crazy how irrelevant Iowa State basketball has become

In all honesty, I kind of enjoyed watching ISU teams of the past play. They were fun to watch, had some great athletes, played a great style.

But last years team and certainly this years team, don’t even look remotely close. From a talent or internal interest standpoint. Ol Steve gotta being feeling some heat.

ISU=Average NAIA team.

I believe they may punt the rest of the season. Saves Pollard from having to explain keeping Prohm for next year and a “free”year anyway for the kids. Now sucks cause kids could get experience but running a team out there to get housed every third day puts JP in a bind when they go winless in the Big 12. I assume if they duck the rest of the season for Covid they can’t really practice though. I mean there is no way a team should be healthy enough for organized practices but won’t play games. BTW if I were other Big 12 teams I would be livid since they are losing guaranteed victories including road victories if ISU waives the white flag on the year.

Make the walk-on play. Two week pause, then make them play every other day til they get back on schedule. No sympathy.

I agree. I have all the sympathy in the world for kids that get sick. But there is no way they can’t be playing at least in the near future. Like I said, I could see them shutting it down because of how bad there are but so unfair to the other teams. Taking auto wins away from opponents so Pollard and Prohm can save face is total BS. They would be dogs in every single game coming up so to take wins away from teams that need it for seeding is crap.

Michigan's football team basically did this.

I find it interesting that they paused “due to covid-19 protocols within the program” but have yet to mention any positive tests.

Totally agree. Doesn’t make it right. And I think for the same reason. Do people think if Michigan football or ISU b-ball were top 10 they would have packed it in? And I think they did it for the same reasons. Save embarrassment and buy time.

ISU is 200th in the NET ranking. For the top 7 teams in the conference, simply playing ISU is a bad thing. It's only a Q3 win at best on the road and there is always the chance you lose, giving you a Q3 or Q4 loss if it's a home loss. Best thing for other Big 12 teams would be for ISU to opt out.

They aren't trying to dodge games. They traveled to KU last Friday and had a practice but it was discovered one of the players had it so that put a big chunk of the team in quarantine. If they were just throwing away the season they would have saved the travel cost of going to Lawrence.

They are simply having COVID problems now, and it simply coincides with one of the worst ISU teams in living memory.

Good points. And fair. And I hope they all get healthy. I was only saying with lesser games wins regardless of opponent may be helpful to a team (look at football). But I agree and this is not a rip but I do think outside of game experience shutting it down is not a bad thing for the program. You don’t want a year with just a few wins especially if you are JP. But you raise good points.

I think in basketball the total number of wins is almost irrelevant due to the primacy of the NET ranking. ISU has gotten very good seeds in the somewhat recent past losing 9-12 games. It's all about that NET and ISU helps nobody there.

As far as game experience goes, really only upperclassmen are getting minutes. So I don't think that matters either.

Your last point really points at the larger problem for isu and prohm going forward. They are this bad and upperclassman are playing the bulk of the minutes. Yes Foster got shut down but the rest of the underclassman playing you aren’t seeing a lot so far from that group that brings a ton of optimism for the future.

If I had to guess, it's over for Prohm. It's just a matter of when. I think he gets another year because he has Hunter committed and the dollars associated with firing him. The next coach will have a total rebuild on their hands and I think that's the case whether it's this year or next year.

I think you’re right. If it wasn’t for covid his seat could’ve been a lot warmer this year but I assume he gets at least one more year.

Totally agree on the experience. On the wins, hell I don’t know. I was only saying teams getting extra wins in a shortened season isn’t bad.

It's tough being a MBB HC at a football school. ;)

More ISU or Iowa fans watching the game tonight? If you go by post volume they surely care more about Iowa than their own team. And they can’t wait for Iowa to lose. Gives them more pleasure than them winning. Been that way for years. And yes, they are now a football school. 3 top 25’s in 110 years makes it that way. I mean it did take a global pandemic for their finish this year but hell yes when people outside of Story County hear about ISU they think football factory. That is why so many Clones play on Sunday’s.

I'll be honest with you ISU is so depressing I'm not even watching CBB. I watched the Knicks/Warriors last night. My son told me the score this morning and I came to see what happened. Looks like Iowa just wasn't making shots which happens. It will happen to Michigan sometime too.

Understood. And you guys are in a rough patch right now. It happens. Wasn’t easy to watch Iowa during the Lick years unless you had a strong stomach. And you guys should be better next year with the transfers and recruits. So hang in there champ!

ISU's young guys are absolutely terrible.

Oklahoma State should have won that game by 40 last night. The Cowboys somehow committed 24 turnovers and ISU still lost by 21.

ISU was outrebounded 49-19.
