CRT and GOP Debacle

Or personal experience through my children being told that white people are evil. Professor beat that drum all semester last spring in a rhetoric class. And yes that was word for word...my son was on zoom and I heard it myself

That would not have been a professor, FWIW

Well an adjunct then smartass. You win a good star for correctly identifying titles in your classes or something? Professor is a general term by the way. Thus the term adjunct professor. Weird huh?

Are you the genius that thinks it is a stretch for someone posting on an Iowa message board to have gone to Iowa and have a kid at Iowa?
Teaching assistants famously teach the rhetoric classes at Iowa, but you're a stupid lying troll and I'm tired of this for the evening.

Faculty linked below. Are you always this stupid or is just a weekday for you? Lots of professors teaching rhetoric at Iowa.

Another broad term, huh? Jesus, you clearly didn't go to Iowa. It's OK to own your lie.

I went to graduate school at Iowa. I understand reading is hard for you. My kid goes to Iowa now

Rhetoric is also taught by professors at Iowa. There is a whole department of them. I went ahead linked it for you. Associate professors is the title you are looking for there champ. They also list lecturers so you could also be correct that other people such as graduate students also teach rhetoric.

The students refer to them as their professor either way though.

You really are this stupid. It is an amazing thing to behold

You're just digging yourself in deeper. You don't know how college works.

This is stupid. Anyone who has actually gone to Iowa knows that Iowa is famous for the required 1st yr rhetoric classes and that they're taught by TA's.

Maybe things have radically changed in the last few years, but I doubt it.
Probably has. U of I can't have TA's teaching the CRT of whites are evil.

Of course I know how college works. It is truly amazing the knots you two clowns are tying yourself in over the word professor. The person teaching my kids class.

By the way you maroon....I'd you actually followed the link I sent you if the rhetoric faculty you would see that many of the associate professors teach first year rhetoric. You obviously didn't look.

Regardless it has been fun watching you trip over yourselves as if the word professor is some sort of turning point for your argument. The person teaching my kids class at Iowa kept referring to white people being evil through the semester. For some reason changing out the word professor doesn't trigger you as much? Is there a reason why? Do you think professors don't say stupid shit all the time?

How about those Yale medical school professors that arranged for a psycho lecturer to speak to their students about her fantasies of shooting white people? I guess I was assuming you knew what Yale was? Is that not that case?

Nope. It was facts that people couldn't handle because...well who the hell knows why.

The professor in my kids rhetoric class said some stupid shit about white people being evil last year on zoom. For some reason the word professor triggers them. Or my use of the word professor. Amusing to say the least

Actually dude, now I'm really really starting to enjoy all the work I put your lying troll, Jr High School drop-out ass through. You actually researched rhetoric at Iowa. Still come off as someone studying the University of Iowa as a foreign language, but hee hee hee.

Again, Iowa is famous for the required 1st yr rhetoric classes taught by TA's, it's a brand. Ask any real Iowa grad.

Once again dimwit I didn't attend Iowa as an undergrad, Iowa's own website lists associate professors teaching rhetoric, professor can be used in general terms regardless, and you really are a stupid stupid person.

Regardless the instructor (since you can't wrap your head around the general use of professor) did what she did.

That you don't like it and want to parse words over the use of the word professor is just gaslighting nonsense from you. Not really a surprise.

An actual Rhetoric Department! Awesome.

Rhetoric is the study and art of writing and speaking well, being persuasive, and knowing how to compose successful writing and presentations. Rhetoric teaches us the essential skills of advanced learning and higher education. In Rhetoric classes, students learn to think logically, to discover wrong or weak arguments, to build a good case....

Sounds like something from the middle ages, and yet sounds like something all universities should require.

If everybody had to pass a couple of classes in rhetoric, would that cut down on things like the OP lady's tirade in this thread

...or would it just make the purveyors of fake news and the conspiracy theorists sound even more persuasive?

Not sure on the extent of the activities of the actual department outside administering the required rhetoric classes. Most undergrad schools require that you take a composition class as a freshman. At Iowa, they name that class "rhetoric" and incorporate some public speaking. Some students are only required to take one semester of "accelerated" rhetoric (as of 2007, could be different now), others take it both semesters.

Any chance you can provide context for that original anecdote about the rhetoric TA? On occasion, teachers and professors do say something extreme to promote debate you know.

and again, even if true, (and I hope you complained to the university about it), what you said the TA said isn’t CRT. Seemingly 80% of the stuff I’ve seen posted on here, and in the news actually had nothing to do with CRT itself. Similar to how GOPers use socialism to call anything they don’t like.

Which one was the perpetrator?

I don't know. Can ask my kid when I see him Friday. He was mildly annoyed and amused when he was in the class but overall didn't care. The response I got about it was that it is a required class so who cares beyond getting the grade.

As for reporting it to the University? Why? It doesn't matter that much beyond it happened

The definition of crt seems to be whatever the person speaking in the moment wants it to mean. The definition most certainly has moved well beyond the narrow use of examination in law schools..

The lecturer was beating the drum of white people being evil all semester and it doesn't matter to you? It's possible the lectures were recorded, the university might want to know that a lecturer was beating that drum all semester.

You said your son learned a lesson on restraint and picking battles, but maybe he could also learn a lesson on doing the right thing. A father and son duo might be compelling witnesses. Was the offender a man or woman?

The instructor was a woman. I care about my son graduating not being on a crusade. If he wants to pursue it he is an adult and can do that with my support. If he doesn't that is his choice as well. She did what she did.

The University isn't going to care by the way.

Why don't you think the university would care if they had a lecturer beating the drum of white people being evil all semester? Have you gotten feedback from the university in the past?

Why do you think notifying the university of poor conduct by a lecturer is a crusade that would impact your son's graduation?

Just seems a bit odd.

I don't think it is odd at all. The University just lost a lawsuit for targeting christian students on campus. This isn't a Christian thing but that behavior indicates a level of petty that I am not real interested in engaging

My son is there for an education not to take on university staff and administration. It isn't the hill to die on.

I also have a very strict rule that he is an adult and as such he makes his own decisions. I will support him and share my opinion but direct involvement is on his terms because it is his path. We discussed it and I shared my thoughts and he made his decision.

I agree that the Christian thing doesn't have anything to do with a lecturer calling white people evil all semester. I'm still not sure why you think your son would be dying on a hill or impacting graduation in any way, is it just a gut feeling or faith?

I think that is a wise rule. From what I can tell, staying hands off would be what is best for him.
