Dude just steps right in and starts playing like Pemsl in the paint and a 12-ft range jump shot to boot!:)

Lots of team errors in that game, but lots of solid and improved team play as well. That is how to keep up with a Top-20 team. Keep playing like this, and they could end up with an NCAA bid....

Very impressed with how our (VERY young) big guys matched up with arguably one of the better frontcourts in the country, and possibly the best frontcourt in the B10.

He played his but off, loved it.

Need to see this guy on the floor more. Hes got a different skill set than the other bigs with that jump shot.

I think his 2 quick fouls in very limited play are the indicator as to why he's not playing more minutes.
He's got some learning on the defensive side to fix that, but his 6 points were at a crucial time to keep PU from running out to a bigger lead. He really looked like he belonged out there and the combo of Pemsl/Cook/Kreiner is going to be fun to watch for 3+ more years....

I do like Kreiner's 12-ft jumper range - he looked VERY smooth taking those shots.

I kind of thought Kreiner played outside in while at Spirit Lake. Wasn't he supposed to be a good outside shooter?

Belive so. I dont think what we saw tonight is the limit of his range.

I think hes a better compliment to both Cook and CP than they are for eachother because he can space the floor for them and play the 5 on D.

Kind of reminds me of a smaller Marc Gasol.

Yeah two quick fouls against the biggest front line in the country in his first real conference minutes.

Hard to draw to many conclusions.

We just have allot if guys competing for those 2 spots.

He's shown a real nice old school hook shot. Had two friends from the northlands that had seen Kreiner play. One said Kriener would become good and the other said Greg Helmers. Well, Kreiner is already shown more than Helmers.

Ryan and the Baer Trap could be a very nice pair off the pine next year. The depth at guard is a little more slippery. Going to need Ellingson, Dailey or McC the younger to step up their games.

Don't see Williams staying at point guard. He's going to need a lot better shot and a lot better ball skills to hold off Dailey I think.

Yeah, the Williams at pg thing is not going to work. I think its killing his game playing there.

And we've got two stud big men on the way. Our inside game is in decent shape for years to come. Remember the best thing about freshman is they become sophomoes.

They are just freshmen and all will have up's and down's. See Moss....

Helmers with the hard drive. And the monitor, plus the mouse.
Not to bring up old wounds, but hard to believe Helmers was our consolation prize for not getting LaFrentz.

To the poster who brought up the two very different predictions of Kriener, there was some chatter about that during his senior year in HS. There was one particular team and especially one player (I believe Josh Van Lingen from Hull - Western Christian) who gave Kriener absolute fits every time they played. Not sure why that was the case, but I've seen it before.

Also, Kriener had a few health setbacks since the summer (some sort of illness, and then I think he rolled an ankle too), so his development may have been slowed a bit. I think he'll end up being a fine player for us.

Good high school coaching can neutralize star players. Don't forget Western Christian had probably one of the best coaches along with a State Champion team. No shame in losing to that. Kriener led his team to school record in wins and its first state tournament in 84 years. Lots of things to be proud of.

Think you will see him a lot next year but minutes will be tough to find right now. Kid has a skill set that is tough to guard for a big so he will create some mismatches outside. He just needs to get bigger and stronger down low.

Looking back, I think bringing Kreiner in won the game. It was definitely an energy boost that the team fed off of.
I think Frans tool box is getting fuller every week. He is getting close to having enough good talent to run platoons and work most teams into the ground. Virginia and Villanova come to mind at being able to bring wave after wave of players at you.
He just needs a guy to spell Jordan more. I haven't seen that guy yet. Williams showed tonight he's got game but I don't think it's at PG.

This was fun to watch. My favorite part was how it looked like he had just rolled out of bed. He was as surprised as the rest of us.

Have said since the season started would like to see more of Kreiner. As others have mentioned his skill set is different then the other bigs, and he is a good rebounder. The biggest thing for me is, I can't think of one game where Ryan's gone into play, and I thought afterwards, "well he just didn't belong out there". I think he's played solidly if not spectacular each time he's been given a chance.

I don't agree that Kreiner's defense was an issue. I thought the teams defense was improved after Kreiner came in. Wagner had 2 fouls in similar PT. If you are guarding Swanigan/Haas inside on zone and they get the ball, you are going to pick up fouls.

Kreiner did that tie-up with Haas...and drew and over the back on Haas. I was impressed with Kreiner both offensively and defensively. Uhl on otherhand...he's had 3 years of making you wondering if he's paying attention on defense and is just this year improving on defense.

I loved watching him just come in and play. Some freshman think too much. It was like Dailey a couple of weeks ago when he got a chance. I would like to see him get a few minutes a game just to change things up or with that lineup that has no scorers.

Ryan is listed at 6'9" and 247 lbs. and he looked like an average guy off the street against Drago. Lucky for us, he didn't play that way.

No question Kreiner gave us a spark when we needed it. Don't forget the rebounding Baer gave the team. I think he had somewhere around ten boards and got them many of those at crucial points in the second half.

Iowa should get used to bigs wirh fouls. We have a number of guys who see time at the 4 and the five and if we get beat I'm in favor of the hard foul.

Kreiner was incredible. I was shocked to see his skills and his confidence on display against those horses from PU. I don't think it's possible to overstate what a tremendous performance the young man turned in. It definitely was one of the keys to pulling off this upset. It was righteously awesome. :)

I agree that he needs to watch his foul trouble as do some other players but as I told someone else today, I feel like we needed here to go in and be physical with Purdue's frontcourt to get they're pigs pushing back and getting fouls called on them. The fact that Swangian and Haas both ended the game with four fouls made a difference at the end of the game as to what Purdue was willing to risk defensively.

Bingo. Having the extra bigs that can put in even 8-12 minutes and take fouls definitely worked - great coaching strategy by Fran. I think Purdue expected to see Kriener in there; I don't think they expected him to pop 4 points in right when he stepped on the court and tie the game back up. That was a game tilter right there, right when we needed it.

As well as JB knocking down 2 3s in rapid succession to match Purdue's hot shooting guard.

Every time Purdue jumped out to a lead, these guys answered the bell.

I can remember some freshmen over the history of Iowa BB putting up some good numbers for us, but not the likes of what we're seeing this season. It certainly helps to have Jok who can drop in shots off razor-thin windows and open the court up a little for them, but these guys are playing well above expectations. Having Jok on the team not only provides the points, it's the example he provides of what an elite shooter needs to be able to do at this level. We have not had a shooter like this at Iowa in many many years (maybe Gatens was close, but not as fast a release). Being able to play with a guy like that, as a first-year player sets that high standard to work toward. Only wish Jok were around another year to provide that leadership and example.

I like the range that Moss is developing too. If he can tweak that shot to practice and learn the quick release that Jok has, this is a team that could unleash havoc on the B10 for the next few years. Adjusting your shot, while maintaining the accuracy is not easy. Jok has worked hard on that.
