Damn, Purdue and Ohio State look physical.

Honestly, Purdue absolutely destroyed a good FSU team. They are 10 deep and I think there is only one player on Iowa's team that could crack their top ten. Purdue has Trevion Williams coming off the bench and only playing 20 minutes for christ's sake. They have size and athleticism and they really play defense. This is not going to be fun on Friday night. If you wanted a measuring stick game to see where Iowa is in regard to the top teams in the country...here you go.

I also watched Ohio State...they are so physical down low. They matched Duke's size really well...and man do they go to the glass. Duke was sloppy and I didn't understand the game plan as they didn't keep feeding the post. The point is that OSU is going to be a tough matchup for Iowa in the paint.

The B10 started a little rough this year, but it's coming around...and I'm sure Howard will get Michigan going too.

Tough, tough league.

Guys....what the heck were you thinking with this Iowa team back in Aug/Sept? We are so far beyond any posters thoughts/predictions about this team heading into the season. I mean, it's incredible. I can safely say none of us knew what to expect?? We were picked to finish 9th in the B1G and here we are 7-0 with a HUGE road win at Virginia. That matters.

Don't worry about Friday's game at PU. Did ya really think we were going to match up with this team, on the road, in Mackey and win this one? Seriously? They are really good, no question.....we are going to play the game and see what happens but if it's a L....OK....it's an L. No big deal in the bigger goal for this team which is getting into the NCAA tourny. We have a very good team btw.

In terms of OSU.....it's a home win for OSU. Ok...we've done this many times too. Duke does not like to play in other teams home court advantage for a reason. Coach K has been doing this for years for a reason. I remember one year in my many years of posting on these boards, Duke did not play a true road game until the second week of January. Why...well, it's friggin tough to win on the road in a hostile environment and not a neutral site which is what Duke likes to do and a ton of other teams do this too...

Road wins against teams in their very friendly confines tells me a ton about how good a team really is.....we have one against a very salty Virginia team. That's a fact.

Now....if OSU would beat Duke in Cameron.....that's a BIG Deal....capiche?

PS...I watched the PU/FSU game and thought this Iowa team is so much better than FSU....really not impressed with FSU but again, not expecting Iowa to beat PU on Friday.

I think Purdue is the team to beat in the B1G as you said they're very deep. Gotta be a top 2 or 3 team right now - no question

OSU is a question mark right now and I don't mean that as a negative. They're a work in progress as they're still fitting in some new pieces this early in the season but Holtmann could turn them into a very dangerous team come tournament time.

B1G is going to be a war again this year. Realistically, 4 or 5 teams could win it

Ohio State also had the benefit of playing Duke at home a game after the Blue Devils won a close, emotional game against Gonzaga. They are a good team, don’t get me wrong, without Sueing who is one of their better players, but they aren’t nearly as intimidating as Purdue is

Iowa can finish top 5 in the B10, make the dance, and compete for a Sweet 16. What more could you ask for in a league like this? Iowa has the highest ceiling I can remember because unlike years past, THIS team can play defense. Lots of athletes, and not depending on one or two players. Any one of four or five guys could easily lead the stat sheet on any one game. Let's just pray that we don't face injuries during this brutal B10 season. No league is more talented or physical. the B10/ACC challenge just proved that without a doubt. But last year's NCAA tourney proved that such bruising basketball isn't enough.

If this year's Iowa team played last year's Oregon team in the tourney, or Villanova, I'd like this year's Iowa team's chances much more. That makes me want to hug old ladies and drink some Ripple.

I'm trying to figure out how good you guys are. I've seen limited minutes of you this year and the offense looks decent, and Murray is obviously a stud. The win at UVA was good, but the 2nd half collapse showed up and that wasn't good.

I want to put you guys in the Top 4 of the league, but I'm just not there yet.... mainly because of the Strength of Schedule

With a SOS that currently ranks 350th out of 358 (what was it before UVA lol??) -- what can we make of Iowa yet?

Our D isn't elite, so it's either going to be a 90-80 offensive show or I can see us blowing the game open early as Iowa gets shell-shocked.

I'd obviously prefer the latter :)

Regardless I can't see you guys falling down to the 9th/10th best team in the conference this year which is where I believe you were pegged preseason. Looking forward to Friday!

Really refreshing and impressive to see OSU defenders leveling off athletic Duke players on the dribble drive time after time

if you weren't impressed with fsu, your knowledge of basketball must be pretty limited

Hi deb

how do you guard Purdue? Strictly man to man?

I need ideas!

LOL
Whatever you did defensively in the second half against Virginia? I would recommend doing the exact opposite on Friday. Whatever your instincts are regarding how to play good defense? I would recommend doing the exact opposite of that.

That should give you your best chance of holding them under 90 points.

Ahhh the Ol’ Costanza strategy, eh? I like it!

There will be games when Purdue is 2-20 from 3-ball----at least if they behave anyway like the Iowa Hawkeyes do at times. Those are the games you can double eddy and not be in trouble.

Purdue usually slaughters Hawks at W. Lafayettee. and Purdue has their best team in years. So losing big won't mean much.

The OP says Iowa doesn't have anyone that would play in Purdue top10....I think both the Murray brother's would be in a Purdue top10. IF Painter valued post feeds as much as Fran did last year, than CMAC would be a starter for Purdue.

What is interesting about this team is they aren't reliant on any one player. They have two all big ten big men surrounded by shooters. For Purdue to have a night where they shot 5-20 from 3, they would have to have 8 guys shoot way below average.

Purdue is shooting 44% on 172 attempts. Sasha leads all shooters with 47 attempts, shooting at a 46% clip. Will that come down some? Maybe, but he's shown it's sustainable.

The B1G looks tough this season. Last season it was hyped but it might be better this season.

We always get blown out in WL. I expect the same this Friday. :-(
It doesn't always happen. For those of you too young to remember, in 1986-87, during the 3rd week in January, Iowa went on the road and won at #8 Illinois, at #5 Purdue, and then came home to beat #3 Indiana. Those 3 wins vaulted them to a 17-0 record and the #1 ranking in the country. Granted, Purdue and Indiana came back to beat them later in the season to finish tied for the B1G championship, one game ahead of Iowa. But, that was a remarkable week, and Iowa made it all the way to the NCAA regional final where they lost to UNLV.

Iowa will have a punchers chance because of Murray. He is the best 3 level scorer and best player period in the B1G.

Purdue is the only team I see Iowa having 0 chance to beat there or in IC. They are deep, athletic, and long all over the floor. They will apply ball pressure from start to finish, which is the worst-case scenario for Iowa. It's better to get this one out of the way early, learn from it, and move on. Big stage and tough opponent for guys like Perkins, Sandfort, Kris, and Ulis, but I see them getting a lot of PT either out of necessity or a first-half trip to the woodshed.

We will struggle all year with teams that have a really good low post presence. You will see this tomorrow night.

Flip side is we are a really good scoring and running team...we will have to speed teams up all year.

I don't know....BB is a game of matchups but have you been watching the games this week in this challenge? Iowa ran out to a 21 point lead in a very hostile environment against a pretty good Virginia team, very good defensive team to other ACC teams I watched this week. Just ask the ESPN commentators during the game and in the studio, they will tell you how dang good that Virginia team was. Yea, it was a close game in the end but felt Iowa looked pretty dang good in this tourny and brought home a big road W for the B1G.

We shoot the ball so well, we have bucket makers and I saw a lot of bricks in these other games this week. Really surprised at how helter skelter the games looked?

I am not expecting a win tomorrow. PU is really good but right now, like other posters are saying if we lose, learn from it and move on......but we are playing the game of BB better today than a lot of teams.

I worry more about playing on the road in hostile environments....now that's a struggle....ask a talented Duke or Michigan team. These other teams are talented enough they should win at home in their friendly environments.

We should have hit the transfer portal harder for more beef at center.

I remember a Rutgers fan coming here last year and gushing about how great a 3pt shooting team Rutgers was because they were shooting 40% from 3pt line going into B1G plaly. Then they reverted to being brick layers.

I get it, you love your team on another board. Who cares about Purdue here? Purdue will probably lay some bricks when they lose early in NCAA tourney and again don't live up to their ranking.

Meanwhile, enjoy blowing out Iowa, yes Purdue is better than Iowa in b-ball this year.

These are the games that are actually interesting to watch. No one expects Iowa to win so I can just relax and see how they compete with a top tier team. Hopefully they can at least keep it kind of close.

Being upset in the NCAA tourney a couple times doesn't make it the norm. You are trying to normalize something that isn't the norm.

Now. If you said Purdue typically loses to teams that end up in the final 4, you'd he correct.

Lastly, don't you have to be a brick layer to revert to a brick layer?

That's a very poor comparison.
