The coolest thing for me about the MR is that it can anchor to the floor bed, release a tethered device and recharge it power unit.

The Manta Ray is an uncrewed underwater vehicle (UUV) developed by Northrop Grumman for the US Navy:

  • Features
The Manta Ray is designed for long-range, long-duration missions in the ocean. It can:
    • Operate autonomously without human support or maintenance

    • Hibernate on the seafloor for extended periods without refueling

    • Support a variety of missions
  • Size
The Manta Ray has a wingspan of around 45 feet and an overall length of 33 feet.

    • Development
The Manta Ray was developed as part of a Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) program to:
        • Advance key technologies for future UUV designs
        • Create a large underwater drone that can operate independently of manned vessels and ports
    • Testing
The Manta Ray passed its first at-sea tests off the coast of California, with no leaks, ground faults, or other build issues.
