I find this surprising.

Despite the lowest winning percentage in school history, Darrell Hazell will be brought back as coach of the Purdue Boilermakers for a fourth season, a source told ESPN on Thursday.

Hazell's future had been in doubt because of his overall record of 6-26. Last week's upset of Nebraska was only the Boilermakers' second win in 20 Big Ten games under Hazell.

Before receiving a six-year deal at Purdue, Hazell compiled a 16-10 record at Kent State.

Given all the job openings this is a good move by PU. No way they are getting a young up and coming coach with all these vacancies.
Plus sometimes it takes more then 2.5 years to get a program turned around. I don't think he will but it is nice to see coaches getting some time to turn it around.

I agree. This is not the time to be in the market for a new FB coach. They will have a much better shot at prospects next season.

Some of my good friends are Purdue grads and they just don't think they have the money to fire him plus pay enough to attract another good coach plus finish upgrading all of their facilities all at the same time. In general from my observation Purdue fans have gone all-in on basketball and are completely apathetic about football. They are very excited about the upcoming hoops season.

Interesting that you could have said Iowa State instead of Purdue (above) and still say exactly the same thing.

Purdue is just following the Iowa model. In 5 years they will be in the playoffs.

Starting over at Purdue is more of a crapshoot at this point than sticking with Hazzell. Purdue was on a steady backslide before he got this job and now they a ways removed from success under Tiller. This has to be seen as s place you come to end your career from a coaching perspective.

It's a good move for Purdue....

-After four years, that's enough time to judge the type of product Hazell has put together
-With all the openings this year, it's not in their best interest to go looking. Could end up with a very mediocre coach.
